Veep: Omaha

A year after the ascension of Laura Montez, Selina goes on CBS This Morning to talk to co-host Dan about her foundation, but really she's trying to figure out how to get back into politics. Ben shoots her down, hard -- is this a redefinition of the show, or just a head-fake to get us back into the halls of power?
In the meantime, Amy is engaged to and managing the gubernatorial campaign of Buddy Calhoun. Richard is working for the Meyer Fund for Adult Literacy... and AIDS. Jonah has recovered from his testicular cancer but still shaves his head for sympathy. Mike comes back to help Selina with her memoir (and to escape his kids).

It was an odd episode and while I enjoyed seeing some aspects of these characters revealed as they exist within new situations (at least for us), I also felt that something was sort of "off". But I'm waiting to see what happens next week.

It was good to seen Ben in a different context where people aren't expected to constantly use racial slurs and shower each other in inventive, graphic verbal abuse. There aren't very many scenes in the Iannucci-verse like that. (But I guess he's no longer the show runner.)

Not the strongest season opener but still excellent. Ben lasting five minutes at Uber, because it's for millennials too lazy to learn how to drive drunk. Jonah's rant to congress.
Clea DuVall is just great as Marjorie, and Sam Richardson's Richard Splett continues to be one of my favourites. I'm just happy to have this back on air, this cast works together so perfectly.
Hard to think of what the "hook" can honestly be, though, for this season. Selina running again would be far too samey. There will probably be some kind of twist re: the new prez, I think.

But I have trouble believing that that place is uber

Okay what's the series of ridiculous events that would result in the season ending with Selina as Vice President and Jonah as President?

My biggest laugh this episode was Jonah's "The only green bean I ate was a jelly bean, and I grew up to be so tall my stupid mom had to get a different car." I completely lost it - something about that sentence being in the congressional record, I guess.
