Chuck: Pilot   First Watch
September 24, 2014 8:17 PM - Season 1, Episode 1 - Subscribe

Join me as I watch, for the first time ever, the show known simply as Chuck, whom IMDB describes as "a computer geek who gets a computer full of information zapped into his brain...information that contains secrets that the federal government desperately needs to keep in Chuck's head...and keep Chuck, himself, intact." In this opening episode, Chuck meets a woman who agrees to go on a date with him, but she's one of the government agents who's interested more in his head than his body.

As far as a pilot goes, I think this worked. It feels very rough around the edges; I'm guessing they did this on a shoe string budget. The actors all largely turn in a decent performance.

It's also amusing watching how they pander to try and bring attention to the show. Yvonne Strahovski is undeniably attractive, so of course they find a way to have her strip down to her underwear at one point. Because ratings, that's why.

Good show, which promises exciting things to come.

I shotgunned this series on DVD back in 2010 over the summer for the first time, then caught up to the network airings. You're in for some fun with this show, although it gets a little weak near the end when the budget was nearly negative numbers.

I thought the premise and plot were ludicrous (even more so than Alias, and that was already pushing my suspension of disbelief), but Chuck (the character) is endearingly nerdy and the show is a nice blend of action, comedy and sweetness that it's hard to be too harsh on it.

Also, I <3 Casey. He won me over with this line: You shoot him, I shoot you, I leave both your bodies here and go out for a late night snack. I'm thinking maybe pancakes.

Is this on Netflix? I watched the first season or two during the first airing, and liked it. I don't remember why I stopped watching.

It is on Netflix, yes (US).

I remember loving this show, despite all the logical inconsistencies. If you treat it like live action comic book, it's wonderful fun. I'll follow along, just because it'll be fun to be reminded of the episodes I loved.

(Disclosure: I couldn't watch the last season. I mean I tried...but not very hard because I just wasn't in love with the story or the characters any more.)

Disclosure 2: I may be the only person in the world that does not have Netflix.

I miss this show.

As you watch, pay close attention to the references to just about every Cold War spy movie made in the 1980s and 1990s.

There are REPEATED veiled references to Spies Like Us, Gotcha and WarGames. There are others but those are the ones I remember.

Oh, the soundtracks are fantastic. I discovered a ton of music (new to me) that I love because of this show.
