The Strain: New Horizons

We check in on Dutch, Gus, Creem and Eph.

So, less forward motion than last week, but we still have some stuff going on:

* Dutch is, once again, imperiled with an implied threat of rape.

* In case anybody was unclear about Eichhorst's depravity, he specifically wants to eat twice as many babies as Desai is currently providing.

* Gus and Creem have a turf war with some leftover remnants of the NYPD.

* Eph and Alex suffer a severe setback, losing all of the rest of their team to the strigoi.

Gus and Creem have a turf war with some leftover remnants of the NYPD.

About which I really don't care one whit. We're supposed to be wrapping this whole thing up in this final season; the gang story feels like wheel-spinning.

And where is Setrakian? I was kind of expecting us to get one Dutch-focused episode, then one Abe-focused episode; but he seems to have disappeared without trace. Was David Bradley mostly booked on another job during filming of this season?

Eph acknowledging his alcoholism feels like some kind of progress.

David Bradley is pretty busy what with being Walder Frey on Game of Thrones AND appearing as the first Doctor on doctor Who in the season finale and christmas episode of Who this year so yeah he might be MIA due to that.

In terms of Eph, I was SURE he was going to relapse after talking about Zack. Good work staying sober Eph.

Re: Eph -

I was about to say 'this is the first time I've sorta liked him,' but that's untrue: I enjoyed his team-up with Dutch last season to try and cook up sci-fi weapons too.

He seems to do better with someone else keeping him honest. (In an explicitly non-romantic fashion, as his intimate relationship dynamics are all sorts of messed up.) It's a relief to see him sober.

Agreed.

I do hope they give us some resolution about him. It seems like he couldn't have been turned or Eichhorst would've known where to find Dutch, but it did not look good for him last time he appeared.

The restaurant scene with Eichhorst was good. The very last scene in the human-meat packing plant was great. Good stuff. All the rest? Boring.

I don't care about Eph and his drinking. His son set off a bomb. Staying sober is the least of his problems. Also, the woman's brother just died but it's all about Eph and his screwed up family. Plus I'm fairly sure Zach knew he was killing people, he just didn't care.

What was the point of Miranda's new role? After 2 births, max, the women wouldn't have let Miranda near them.
