My hot take: Beth is the best and Toby needs grow up.

OMG, thank you lunasol. I have never liked Toby; even the limo/nursing home bit from season one made me think he was pushy and controlling and ridiculously self-involved. I don't always hate him, but I hate the way he is with Kate.

And as much as I love this show (and it's a lot!), when I stop and think about which characters I care the most about, I realize that the only ones I'd actually want as my friends are Beth and Randall. Beth's "Well, now I feel like a bitch," (from the episode where we learn William's been sneaking off to feed his cat so as not to aggravate the little one's asthma) made her the show's standout for me. I want to meet her for lunch!

Yeah, Toby is way too pushy, and I don't want Kate settling for him.

I loooooooove Beth. Hearts drawn all over the page.

Yeah, I actually think Toby is kind of the worst and have for a long time. And it concerns me that the writers seem to think he's great for Kate, just maybe needs a few tweaks.

Oh well, they can't all be Beths!

I think Randall and Beth are the Gallant to every other relationship's Goofus on this show. I like the other actors, and I think there is overall a good balance of good intentions and believable mistakes in the Pearson family, but I, like everyone else it seems, am here for Randall and Beth.

I’m in to season 3 and while I’m obviously hooked there are a couple of things bothering me.

1. The complete inability of the writers to walk past any opportunity for a big speech about how another character WILL rock a presentation or an election or a school project or marriage or parenthood etc.

2. Miguel is like a damn ghost. His character is so slept on. Other characters in the show get monologues and flashbacks and probing dialogues and so far the most revealing scene w him is where he and Rebecca go to thanksgiving with his kids and we see that they don’t have a great relationship. We don’t get to see him make Rebecca happy or play with his grandchildren (maybe once) or have very much (there are a few) in the way of convos w the big 3.

I’m just annoyed.
