Counterpoint! I loved her other books but found this tedious. It worked as an exploration of a set of themes -- authenticity, where things come from, and how cultures and people become invested in those things. As a story, I found it... less than compelling. Readable -- I got to the end of it, which I don't with a lot of books I start -- but just not that fun, and while I liked how thoroughly every single strand of the books centered on its themes, I didn't feel like it had anything revelatory to say about those things.

I just re-read this last week and found it funny and moving. The audiobook is good too!

This was a good book. I love touches like "Yeah there's just a fuckkin lot of ancient glass here, probably from a long dead civilization IDK"
I also really enjoyed a protagonist who is completely ill-equipped to carry out the heroism that they find themselves involved with and does everything with maximum anxiety, very relatable. I also enjoy seeing humans adapt to live in alien cultures instead of the other way around as is so common in Sci-Fi.

I don't have like deep thoughts about this, largely because I had a different family dynamic than Ingray or Tic.
Also, everything about the Geck Ambassador's spider-mech, whether it was the real one or Tic's hilarious impersonation of it, was my favourite thing about the book.
I know Leckie is taking a break to write fantasy for a bit, but I do find myself wondering what's going to happen with the treaty delegation. Hopefully she revisits this universe when she has something to say about that.
