Captain Mercer is smitten by Captain Pria, who they rescue from the ship, but Commander Grayson does not trust her. Grayson launches an investigation into the Pria with the help of Lt. Kitan. Meanwhile, an attempt by Lt. Malloy to explain humour to Isaac results in them playing pranks on each other.

While on a routine stellar mapping mission on the edge of explored space, the Orville finds an enormous derelict spaceship which is drifting on a collision course with a star. Captain Mercer takes a team over to the ship to investigate. While aboard the derelict, the Orville is called away to assist a union ship which is under attack by a Krill warship.

The Orville: Command Performance Season 1, Episode 2
The Orville receives a distress call from another Union ship. Surprise, it's a trap, and Ed and Kelly find themselves imprisoned in a replica of their former home. Meanwhile, back on the ship,Bortus is on parental leave in his quarters after laying an egg. Alara is in command for the first time in her career. The crew discovers which system Ed and Kelly are located in, however they are informed by Union Command that system is off limits. Ed and Kelly are written off as lost in the line of duty and the Orville is ordered to return to Earth. Alara defies orders and heads up a rescue mission.
The Orville: Old Wounds (Pilot Episode) Season 1, Episode 1
Set in the year 2418, pilot Ed Mercer of the Planetary Union divorces from his wife Kelly after he catches her cheating on him. One year later Ed learns that he got promoted to be Captain of the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploration ship. To Ed's annoyance the First Officer assigned to his ship is his ex-wife Kelly. While on their first mission, a routine re-supply delivery to a scientific station, the station and the Orville get attacked by aliens that want to steal a device that can accelerate time.
