The Next Voyage

There's been some talk of another Trek series rewatch now that our Voyager rewatch is wrapping up. So, as we did before, let's hash out some deets!

I for one would vote The Next Generation, on account of the news that Jean-Luc is returning with a new series. On the other hand, it might make sense to wait on that until that new series is actually out, or at least more imminent. Hmm…

Our other options appear to be Enterprise and the previously-not-very-popular-seeming Animated Series :)

And: who'll be our posters?

I will not be a poster, because I've already done so for VOY and most of DS9, although I will have plenty to say as a commenter, I'm sure. As far as the choice of show, I could go any which way, honestly.

My vote is Enterprise mostly because I've never applied any critical lens to the property. I watched it exactly one time through, start to finish, and promptly forgot everything but that hella sweet Mirror Universe story and something something villainous Peter Weller. Talking about it might reveal... dunno. Something? (Like, if you bring up Conner Trinneer, my first thought is Stargate Atlantis, not ENT. That's never a good sign.)

I'm willing but less enthusiastic about TNG - I admit I'm looking at S1/S2 with some serious trepidation. I also feel like ENT is maybe a good followup to VOY since they're both widely considered failures, but for very different reasons.

In either case, I'm good for one post a week. This club has been good for my morale in our horrible dystopian cyberpunk present, and I'm happy to pitch in to keep stuff going. (If someone else wants to trade off to cover ground faster the way you two did for VOY, that's great. If not, no problem.)

I dunno about TAS, but if there's somehow a groundswell of support, I guess I'm one of the gang through thick or thin.

I'd also vote for Enterprise after my last rewatch of it. It's uneven as all get out, like most of Trek, but season 3... hooo boy, that's some interesting TV. Plus it ties into the most recent Trek movie AND my LA roommate worked in the writer's room as an assistant and he claims that the zombie Vulcans episode was his idea. I would probably not create posts as I am lazy, forgetful, and often busy. That's just the one I'd want to comment on the most.

ENT also fits well as a follow-up to VOY insofar as that's what it literally was. Yeah, I'm changing my vote to "wait a bit for TNG." Plus, if we were doing TNG now, I'd feel the need to do one of the weekly posts, and that'd be tough with my schedule for the foreseeable future.

Awesome! Yeah, I'll bow out of regular duty for ENT, but I will definitely participate. And feel free to MeMail me if you need a sub.

If you bring up Conner Trinneer, my first thought is George W. Bush, due to contemporaneous factors and Trip's accent and the fact that there's a slight facial resemblance. That's also never a good sign. (And of course, it's not fair to Trinneer, who was one of the more committed-seeming performers in that show IIRC.)

I've watched ENT through exactly one time, and would enjoy following along on a rewatch (am I the only person who *doesn't* hate the theme song?).

OTOH, TAS is firmly embedded in my DNA (I was 6 when it premiered, already a Trekkie, and Could. Not. Get. Enough. of it) and a rewatch of that would be a lot of fun. Heck, I might could possibly be convinced to be a poster for a TAS rewatch.

Hahaha, no it is not.

That makes sense. I'd be less sanguine about handling 7 seasons solo than 4, too. That's a lotta Riker sitting down to cover.

Sounds good. In that case, I'll begin on Monday and continue from there, and I'll drop you a line if I get sick or outta town or the like. (I will probably actually have the first post done by Thurs due to nerves about this - you guys are leaving some big shoes to fill - but I'd rather commit to 'handle this on Sundays' for the foreseeable future.)

Heck, I might could possibly be convinced to be a poster for a TAS rewatch.

My vote is for Enterprise. I haven't watched it with a critical eye.

am I the only person who *doesn't* hate the theme song?.

Nope! I like it, too. The epic orchestral themes from the other Treks are good. But a nice little pop song is a nice change. I wonder if we have the Firefly theme song because of ENT theme song.

I'm OK with Enterprise. There's some rough spots in there for sure that'll make for good discussion.

Re: the theme song. I loathed it during Enterprise's original run. By the time I got to season 3 on my last rewatch I was singing along.

I am willing to be a poster for a TNG rewatch, as it remains one of the shows I hold dearest in my heart, and one of the few TV shows I've rewatched in its entirety multiple times.

But honestly, I'm more interested in participating in an Enterprise rewatch, since I'm completely unfamiliar with about 90% of it. It'd be essentially a First Watch for me.

I've never watched TNG, but I've been thinking of doing so for a while now. I wouldn't need a First Watch.

I happily vote Enterprise as well.

mordax, if you need help at any point, let me know via memail. I've just moved halfway across the country and am still settling in, but within the next week or two things should be more normal.

Thank you, CheesesofBrazil and HalloweenJack. You've both done an incredible job recapping Voyager. The last year and a half has been extremely stressful and difficult for me and re-watching the show as well as your recaps and threads have been a bright spot. I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am truly grateful to you both -- not just for giving me a reason to watch Voyager in order again, but for the space you've created here for thoughtful commentary and discussions.

Thank you! :)

(Right now, I'm pretty excited about the whole thing - first post is all waiting to go - but anything could happen between now and their terrible finale.)

My feeling is that it's been a long road getting from DS9 to Voyager. It's been a long time, but Enterprise's time is finally near.

I'm going to enjoying seeing those posts come alive at last. I'll rewatch that Bakula guy and nothing you say is gonna hold me down. You ain't gonna change my mind.

You know why?

I vote for Enterprise, only because all I have access to right now is cable, and it's in Season 3 right now on I&H. It's the easiest way for me to contribute without having to recall from memory or falling down the Memory Alpha rabbit hole for an hour.

Went to post, forgot I needed to verify the show first. I just submitted that a minute ago.

I'll have our next discussion up as soon as that's taken care of. It's already all written and whatnot. (I was actually working on the second one earlier.)

Sorry about the delay!
