mediareport was kind enough to support MeFi with a donation. Their request was for six recent films that were big hits outside of the US but didn't get much attention stateside. There was a problem, though, in that I was only able to narrow the field to 14 films. Fortunately Soap_and_Bathetic kicked in an extra $15 to push me to share the entire list. I'll be using the tag #PopcornWorld

Donate $25 or more to MeFi and you can MeMail me a request for a themed day of your own. I'll fill up the sidebar on FF with six movies that fit your theme.

Look, if you're not into Donnie Yen beating people up, I don't understand you as a person.

Shout out to Scott Adkins, because every time he shows up in an action movie with an Asian star, he always seems to play the "arrogant white dude who thinks he's hot shit". Somehow Adkins hasn't gotten a proper vehicle to make him a star, in contrast with Frank Grillo, who it seems has been the top name in a dozen B-level action flicks in 2022 alone.

An entertaining movie, though of course a little ridiculous. Donnie Yen is amazing as always.

If you like Adkins's work here, check out the Stuntmen React series he was on, talking about this movie, he seems like a great guy. And although he hasn't gotten his own starring role, he was definitely memorable in John Wick 4!

The absence of my favorite Fan Siu Wong* from the first three Ip Men means it can't be the best of the Ip Man film, but apart from that? Perfectly fine Martial Arts flic.

I remember I bought the DVD after listening to Accented Cinema's video essay Ip Man 4: How to write racism and I did not regret it.

(And I second the plug for Stuntmen React. After giving the villain in Undisputed 2, Adkins had a starring role as Boyka in Undisputed 3-4 - quite well described as 'not a proper vehicle to make him a star' if you ask me, but part 3 had some decent fight scenes).

*He's so great! Karl Urban reminds me of him sometimes.
