Special Event: Rifftrax: Undefeatable
MST Club Presents! Oh wow. Cynthia Rothrock plays Kristi Jones, who seeks to avenge her sister's death at the hands of a character I'm just going to call a "crazed martial artist." It was made in 1993, which figures. Here's a Youtube video of the climatic fight, at about three minutes long. Again I say, wow. The riff premiered June 2024, just about two weeks ago.
Movie: Drive
[TRAILER] Maybe you saw Guillermo del Toro's recent tweet praising Drive as "an unbelievable, exhilarating film." Thing is: he isn't talking about the 2011 Drive with Ryan Gosling. He's talking about the bonkers 1997 US buddy comedy/Hong Kong-style action/sci-fi B movie gem with Mark Dacascos (whom we enjoyed kicking ass in John Wick 3), Kadeem Hardison (Dwayne Wayne from A Different World), and Brittany Murphy, doing one of those turns where she transforms a peripheral "the girl" part into something electric and weird. It's a lost delight that ticks a lot of the best B movie nerd boxes. [more inside]
Special Event: Rifftrax: For Love Or Death
MST Club presents a 2024 Rifftrax of a movie from 1996. A karate monk doesn't want to do the karate-monk thing any more and leaves their evil karate sect. They come after in the evil karate sect way. So he transfers his soul into a passed-out hobo, giving him his karate moves. I didn't know it was so easy! Neo's skills in The Matrix don't seem so impressive now. Wait... maybe this is the Matrix, and the robots got their brain files mixed up? Agent Smith is going to have to pull overtime to fix this. You know most of the work the Agents do is going to be dumb gruntwork like that. Anyway, 1996 karate hobo action flick go.

Love to Hate You: 10 episodes (2023) Season 1, Ep 0
A new battle-of-the-sexes drama has just dropped [2/10/2023], and while it boasts all the K-drama tropes we know and love, they’re packaged in a slightly more mature box. Love and silliness are still at the forefront of this rom-com, but it also addresses sexism and misogyny from the lens of a woman who has made it her mission to stomp on the patriarchy in whatever small way she can. DramaBeans, rating 9.2 [more inside]

Movie: Circle of Iron
Now here's a koan for you. What is a movie named? Is it what it was released and promoted as, or what the dang thing actually says its title is right there on the screen? This movie, called Circle of Iron in theaters, on posters and in the IMDB, is everywhere within it titled "The Silent Flute." This movie, which was attached to Bruce Lee for a while, is a silly pseudo-intellectual fighting/wandering/picaresque/D&D quest kind of thing, about a shirtless guy named "Cord," (Jeff Cooper) traveling the shirtless wilderness searching for "Zeetan," (Christopher Lee) a guy who supposedly has a book of knowledge, while guided and opposed by various people all played by David Carradine. While it definitely has its problematic aspects, it's still MST Club approved! [more inside]

Mystery Science Theater 3000: MASTER NINJA I Season 3, Ep 22
"The Master Is Here! He's the supreme warrior. Even his eyes can kill you. His student is the supreme heartthrob. His eyes can melt you." A goofy kid who lives out of his van with his pet hamster is taken on as apprentice by an aging American ninja master played, amazingly, by Lee Van Cleef, and who's back in the US looking for his lost daughter. They travel the country in a manner not unlike Richard Kimble or David Banner. This is another of those direct-to-video "movies" that are actually episodes of a TV show stitched together. This time though, despite the name, it's an American show, "The Master," from 1984, and it's from Film Ventures International. You might think it'd make for a bad episode, but this is another true classic, thanks no doubt to the writing talents and obsessive pop culture knowledge of one Frank Conniff. A good jumping-on episode. YouTube (1h33m) Premiered January 11, 1992. [more inside]
