Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: I'm Going to the Beach with Josh and His Friends!
January 27, 2016 7:04 AM - Season 1, Episode 9 - Subscribe

Rebecca gets invited to a beach day with Josh et al, and ends up renting a party bus, doing an empowered feminist pole dance, and blowing her cover story of why she moved to West Covina, thanks to Darryl (Oh, did we mention he's on the bus too? So is Heather. Don't ask.).

Only one new song this week, as Valencia serenades women at a mall with "Women Gotta Stick Together", and it's just as deliciously evil as one would expect. We also get "I Have Friends (Sad Reprise)" from Rebecca and "West Covina (Second Reprise)" from Josh and Rebecca, as she covers for her real reason for moving.

I enjoyed this episode but it was tough to watch at times as Rebecca kept getting exposed.

I am usually able to handle the amount of cringe in this show, but this episode man. The slow stripping away of Rebecca's lies, the over-the-top attempts to get into the friend group...

Also I'd like to see another side to Valencia besides just "mean girlfriend." Not that she's not a little justified in being mean, it would just be nice to show that that's not all she is.

Cosigned. When Valencia was introduced I was excited that she and Rebecca would actually become friends, and was disappointed when she took a sharp turn toward nastiness. Making Valencia an adversary leads to more explosive moments (as in this episode), but I'm tired of the cliché of the love interest's current partner being completely awful. The tension of Rebecca liking Josh while also being friends with Valencia would be more interesting to me than the current configuration, and while it seems that that's never going to happen, I'd nonetheless like Valencia to be more fleshed out. All the same, this was a stellar episode.

Yeah, in both this episode and that episode it would've been the bolder and more surprising move to have them be genuinely nice to each other. To be fair, that is harder to make dramatic.

But there was a lot I did like about this episode, especially Josh and Paula being supportive and understanding. And Daryn and White Josh one true pair.

I gotta say, the real story of how she moved to West Covina is darned sweet. And Josh's reaction was adorable.

On the other hand, holy shit the pole dance.

RIGHT? It was embarrassing, but it was also well-done and I kept looking to see if she was using a stunt double, but as far as I could tell most of it was really her.

I'm confused about the end, with all the alarm clocks and Josh in bed?

That was Hector in bed.
