The NBA on TNT: NBA Playoffs: MIA vs TOR
May 11, 2016 11:30 AM - Season 27, Episode 3 - Subscribe

The Toronto Raptors, a young unproven team with a rabid fan base trying to get further than they have in recent memory, are tied with a Miami Heat team plagued by injury and age, who nevertheless have played with great guile and ferocity. The Severe North vs the Lackadaisical South. Lannisters vs Starks. And so forth. Meanwhile, Lebron is chilling in an ice bath with the dragons. Game 5 is tonight, 5/11/16.

I don't have a dog in this race, but I've enjoyed watching Wade out there. I think it'd be fun watching him against the Cavs. I'm hoping the raps don't go out on a totally awful DeRozan game, but that doesn't seem likely.

Instead, the opposite! I like Demar and I think he gets slandered a lot by people who only watch the last 5 minutes of games. Nice to see him prosper.

Would you give Demar a max deal and build, say, the Lakers around him?

To me, the criticism of Demar is that he modeled his game off the iso dribble-drive game of Kobe - except, to date, he's not been able to translate that into a lot of team/playoff success. Until last night, he had the lowest shooting percentage for anyone taking 200 shots in the playoffs since 1961.

That might be changing, and now he's battling a thumb injury, although until he got hurt it's guys like JV and Biyombo playing above their heads that has gotten them to a chance to play in the East finals.

To me - Demar is a classic #2 option who, because he plays in Toronto, was forced to be a #1 guy. He's been fortunate that they were able to get/keep Lowry and I think he's thrived as the guy-next-to-another-guy. I just don't look at his work to date and think he's a max, #1 guy, and sometimes he plays like that's what he is.

You could easily build the Lakers around him once the Lakers figure our Jordan Clarkson is their #1 option.

I'm excited (in a mean way) to see what the Lakers do. I want to see where this downhill nepotism train is going. Max contracts are effectively very cheap this summer and a ton of teams will be able to hand them out. A lot of starters who are not stars are going to get max deals. I imagine the Lakers getting like 3 different "20 points on a bad team" volume scorers together. Glorious.

It'd be like a Lakers team made of Kobe, Shaq, Malone and Payton.

That team was actually pretty good, but couldn't do it, and certainly not as legendary as it sounds.

Wade got 2 of those guys rings a couple years later, which is why I am pulling (a bit) for MIA on this one, but not really by much.

This series seems to be a race to the executioner.
