Supernatural: Lost and Found
October 13, 2017 2:36 PM - Season 13, Episode 1 - Subscribe

Sam and Dean are left to pick up the pieces following the... events of last season's finale.

There's so little I can put in the post that won't be spoilery to everyone who hasn't kept up.

So Jack, Lucifer's son, has some great scenes here, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

I thought it was a really strong premiere, but I was confused by the sassy, pop-culture-savvy angel lady who talked about her bitchy college roommate. She seemed like a snarky Supernatural demon, not like a typical angel at all. Even after she revealed herself as an angel she was still talking about Becky, so apparently she really did have a college roommate. Why would an angel go to college and have a roommate? None of that bothered me because I assumed she had some backstory and was going to be an ongoing character, but then she got the angel shiv and that was that.

The actor playing Jack gave off such a Misha Collins vibe I wondered if they were related. Even before the revelation about Jack seeing Castiel as his father, I was like, "Why does this kid remind me so much of Castiel?" Like, the voice, the face, even the way he stood. So, was I seeing something that wasn't meant to be there, or is the idea that by Jack deciding Castiel is his father, the kid absorbed aspects of Castiel somehow?

Collins is all over the posters for this season, so it seems pretty likely he'll be back and that kind of undercuts the drama about Castiel being really, truly dead this time. But they sure are hitting that drama hard, so maybe Castiel won't be back in quite the same old way. We shall see...

(Also, yay for next-day threads!)

Yeah, I was confused by that too. I thought maybe she was just pulling from her host's memories, but her entire demeanor really did scream demon, not angel.

I suppose it makes sense that Heaven's completely off the rails though - Supernatural angels are pretty awful people generally.

I'm expecting alt-universe Castiel at this point, yeah.

Agreed! Thanks, numaner!

Yeah, the actor playing Jack did a great job pulling off son of Cas, especially during the "What are you on?" scene. That's exactly how Castiel would have answered. I'm on a chair.

Oh man. Just had a thought. If Castiel is all the way the dead, and Jack can age at will and take on characteristics of his chosen father... is Misha Collins eventually going to be playing Jack?

Oh, that's a neat possibility too.

thirding the confusion by the sassy angel. Like all the way up until she was holding the angel blade to the sheriff's son's throat, I thought demons were teaming up with angels to find Jack. I'm sure Becky isn't real, but this angel was just good at small talk (which is super weird for angels)

Yeah they're really making Cas' death final with the corpse burning, so any theory is valid now, but Jack turning into Cas would be really interesting.

I honestly didn't expect him to say Castiel is his father, but the whole line of "I chose him to be my father because my mother told me to trust him" was acted out really well and I had ALL THE FEELS. This damn show man, even in the 13th season...

I've been waiting for this premiere foreeeeeever. And I currently don't have cable so I'm watching it on CW's site (which adblock plus really works well with!), so I basically catch it during my lunch break at work the next morning, and I'll make the posts by the end of the day if someone hasn't gotten to it already. I'm looking forward to the rest of this season with you all!

We missed most of last season and my wife is furious that Cas is dead. But even she knows that this is Supernatural and we'll see him in some form soon enough. Episode was pretty decent and yes, the old rule applies: angels are dicks.

Yeah, has anyone heard anything about Misha Collins actually staying dead on this show? The part where his body was on fire threw me for a loop here.

The kid playing Jack reminds me of Leonardo diCaprio back in the day. Not sure what to make of him yet.

I kinda liked New Sheriff Lady, will she be befriending Sheriff Jody and joining up with the Wayward Daughters? With her son coming along to uh, bang, I guess? That guy was both creepybad and yet super amusing to me somehow.

That pirate restaurant and the butt menu! Choice!

Did not get the angel Becky ranting crap either. WTF was that, indeed.

Totally solid premiere. I can't see Cas being DEAD DEAD, but yeah, they sure are selling that angle hard. I guess we'll find out.

I'd been thinking while I watched the kid that the way he was playing Jack really reminded me of Castiel, so it was nifty that that was intentional.

Also, I'm afraid to look up how old that actor was when this show started, because I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been old enough to watch it.

Was expecting Becky roommate to be season seven Becky, could have been a good twist.

There's been angel Cas, human Cas, God Cas, broken angel Cas , which variety did you want to return?

Quotes

Dean: Let's see. Crowley's dead, Kelly's dead, Cass... Mom's gone, and apparently the devil's kid hit puberty in thirty seconds flat. Oh, and almost killed us.
Sam: Yeah, because you tried to shoot him.
Dean: I tried to shoot the monster, Sam. It's kind of what we do.

Trivia

After Dean was done talking to the drunken, "I want fries" woman, as he and Sam drove away from the pirate-themed restaurant, the word "BITCH" can be seen, written in dust on the passenger side window of the car.

Dean refers to Jack as Damien, the name of the Anti-Christ (son of the Devil) in the classic 1976 horror movie, The Omen.

Sheriff Barker is wearing a deputy sheriff's badge, but as the county sheriff her badge would not say "deputy" on it.

During the car driving scene, a camera can be seeing reflected in the small fixed window near the left side-view mirror.

Sheriff Barker would make a good addition to the "Awesome Lady Sheriff" roster, but she doesn't appear again in the series.

I was already tired of Jack's naïve wunderkind shtick by the end of this episode, but we're in for several seasons more of it, sigh. It never occurred to me that Jack was rather like Castiel, but it's true he is, in his too-literal humourlessness. I think that may have more to do with him being a very young half-angel than him deciding to be like Castiel -- that may be how angel brains work by default, until and unless they adapt to be more like human beings.

Sam taking a moment to note the butt-themed menu listing and then being all "I need to focus here" is really funny.

I started out expecting them to take Jack’s story in a totally different direction than it went, but in the moment, Lucifer’s son asking Sam if he’s his father is a nicely nasty touch, and nice job of foreshadowing what Jack and Sam end up being to each other.

I would guess Sam of all people has a pretty comprehensive knowledge of all the things Lucifer might do to the person who trapped him, but fair enough that Castiel’s funeral was a great time to not bring any of them up.
