Arrow: The Thanatos Guild
March 29, 2018 9:30 PM - Season 6, Episode 16 - Subscribe
Nyssa Al Ghul returns to Star City to warn Thea that a group of renegade League of Assassins members are planning to attack her. This group, led by Athena, is intent on finding a mysterious box that Malcolm left behind.
I'm still processing this one. I know that Willa Holland was ready to leave, but to start up this entire new plot now as this season needs to come into focus to aim for the finale feels irresponsible. That Merlyn started up his own League of Assassins knowing where we left him in his crappy apartment following his stint in the Legion of Doom doesn't feel feasible to me, but I buy into a lot of nonsense on these shows, so I guess I'll roll with it.

this felt like a backdoor pilot to me. like we're gonna have another Arrow-ish show with 3 arrow-toting heroes against some magical assassins. but really, sign me the hell up, especially with those 3 actors? yiss.

and Nyssa's constant taunting to Felicity about being Oliver's wife was hilaaarious. "Sisterwife"! And only Emily Bett Rickards could pull off that reaction face and then the awkward "i'm going to change the subject or walk away before i have to slap you and then get stabbed because you're a goddamn assassin" and Nyssa knowingly rubbing it in. So great.

I thought this was pretty great. I love Thea, but it's clear that her story has been told. She went through a lot of shit, let her hide out for a while and come back for the series finale.
Also I LOVED beefy Roy. He looked great with more grown up dad bod. OR TV level dad bod, probably he is still incredible fit, I just thought he looked grown. Get it Thea!
Odd to come back from a break with a weird stand-alone good bye ep, but it felt kind of invigorating after a pretty drowsy season. Focused more on core characters and the C plot with Curtis didn't get in the way. Thanks for posting these, I am going to try and participate more. I am not very critical of these shows, I just really like them, but I want a place to discuss them instead of reading AvClub threads that make me weirdly defensive.

Glad you're planning to be with us more, kittensofthenight. It's a pretty friendly group here. I think pretty much we all fall about the same place on the spectrum that you do: we enjoy them and aren't too critical of them, except when the make no sense at all (which happens more frequently than we'd prefer).
I'm going to miss Nyssa ragging on her sisterwife and their beloved in the future, but it was nice to see them wrap up that marriage arc.

you're not wrong, every AVClub thread makes me defensive of shows I don't even like, they're monsters.
