American Gods: The Beguiling Man Show Only
March 18, 2019 3:32 PM - Season 2, Episode 2 - Subscribe
A new New God surfaces, Tech Boy searches for Media, Laura and Mad Sweeney go after Shadow, while Nancy and Wednesday go after his spear.
Den of Geek finds this episode "Diverting, but listless"
Vulture is even more brutal "The second episode certainly isn’t significantly worse than the premiere — and better in some ways — but still doesn’t allay the fears in a truly notable way, or hold a candle to any chapter of season one."

It seems weird because they are both headed to the same place. Why not tell her the spear is in the same place as Shadow?
I think the short answer is so we can have Nancy/Wednesday road show and Laura/Sweeney road show. While Laura and Mad Sweeney were awesome last season, I found them in this episode to be "Meh." I think part of it is because we already went through a lot of this last season. I mean you want to talk about weird pacing-both sides have lost their queens. Last season things were at least headed toward House on the Rock. This season both sides are floundering. And I found the exposition with Shadow's Mom painfully talky and cliched.

this season is sluggish. it LOOKS like season one, but...
"diverting but listless" is a perfect description. the actors are giving it their all, but the writing and editing is lacking. i feel impatient and annoyed while watching and really dislike the tactic of using graphic violence/torture/gore to make weak work seem "edgy". i really really hope this gets better but i am losing faith.

Yup. Like, do we need any more exploding rubber heads?

Starting to catch up, but this episode really dragged.
One small character detail that I did like: Young Shadow, who's spent most of his life in France, interacts with the basketball like it's a soccer ball.

Just catching up with this season, not sure how I didn't know about it for two months.
I liked the first episode but this one seemed like filler. Other than the flash-backs to Shadow's childhood, there wasn't really anything in this at all.

Nancy and Wednesday go after his spear.
Oh; huh. I completely missed that bit of exposition, because I really had no idea what they were doing together or why/how they ended up intersecting with Shadow/Laura/Mad Sweeney at the end.
Choosing to show the train-vs-car explosion reflected in Wednesday's eye felt strongly like a "we didn't have the budget to do this as a practical effect" thing.
