Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Cinco de Mayo
May 10, 2019 9:03 PM - Season 6, Episode 16 - Subscribe

Its the Halloween Cinco de Mayo Heist! In order to distract Terry from the stress of his upcoming lieutenant's exam, Jake, Holt and the squad decide to hold the annual Halloween Heist on a new date, Cinco de Mayo.

Cold open: Terry hates tests! Terry is stressed about the Lieutenant's exam.

Jake: “Welcome, one and all, to the first-ever Cinco de Mayo Halloween Heist 6. We’re still working on the title.”
Boyle: “No need. I love it.”
Jake: “Thank you, Charles.”

I have to give this episode a lot of credit, I was (emotionally) with Terry when he was saying he hated the heist and I was also emotionally with Terry when he won!

Always nice to see Kevin. And I am relieved Bill is not dead!

Plus the feel-good ending that Terry is already a lieutenant.

Amy had one of my favorite lines (last sentence here):
Amy: “And I would love to defend my crown after I destroyed you all last year.”
Jake: “Well, I mean—the proposal was all part of my plan.”
Amy: “All I remember is you bowing to me on your knees.”
Jake: “Yeah, I was asking you to marry me.”
Amy: “Well you looked like a fool.”

I was complaining that last week's episode totally lost the show's zip - but it came back in force fo this one! Awesome heist episode!

Also bringing Kevin into the heist is objectively the best thing

JAKE: "They were actors! Oh thank god. I felt so bad about poking that guys wound to prove it was fake."
ROSA: "You should still feel bad about doing that."

We were very happy to see Kevin. Kevin and Cheddar.

The captain taking this Extremely Seriously is my favorite thing. Also, "Cheddar, you can inform me when you are done. By bark."

Kevin at the end, coming up with an elaborate off the cuff torture scenario was fun too. Though I got a little demon from the good place vibe.

I am having unexpected feelings about Marc Evan Jackson's very very good beard.

Cheddar!

Rosa needs to win a heist, if she cares, I suppose.

If Boyle/Hitchcock/Scully win, teh horrorz.

I dunno...it felt a little confusing at this point, but that's also to be expected after all of this, right?

Upon rewatch, another fav line:

Captain Holt: How many cummerbunds are you holding? Zero! It's one 'bund to none, son!

Holt and Rosa had all the best lines.

Holt: "And what did you win? A lifetime of mediocre, heterosexual intercourse with Jake."

and then:

Charles: “And you thought Shlomo Ben Israel wouldn’t come through.”
Rosa: “No, I said the name and costume were offensive, bordering on actionable.”

Rosa: "Five heists was enough, we've exhausted every possibility of this thing. Literally, nothing new can happen. It's boring."

Everyone (including Rosa): *does literally nothing new, but does so much more of it that it's amazing anyway)

Rosa needs to win a heist, if she cares, I suppose.

I can imagine it now:

Rosa: "I'm going to win this time."
Jake: "How?"
- a loud bang sounds with a flash of light
- when the smoke clears, everyone but Rosa is on the ground slightly injured
- she holds up the trophy, everyone is afraid to take it from her
- episode ends 27 minutes early

With a "X hours later" jump cut, that really could be the cold open for the next Halloween episode, I wouldn't even be mad.
