Lucifer: Orgy Pants to Work

While Lucifer and Chloe search for a connection between a murdered auditor and a nudist colony, Amenadiel plays host to an unexpected visitor.

AV Club - If Lucifer can’t have it all, what chance do the rest of us have?

*Maze arrives at the penthouse, having been gone for months, to find an orgy morning-after. She and Eve meet for the first time - Eve fangirls her, and Maze is charmed. Lucifer rushes off to the precinct for a mandatory meeting, regales Ella and Chloe with his and Eve's latest sexual escapades, discovers he's two days late for the meeting, and rushes back to Eve when she texts him to come for the "naughty raffle", to Chloe's annoyance.

*Maze arrives at Linda's to find Linda is super-pregnant, and Amenadiel tells Linda he'll see her at Lamaze class. Maze angrily gifts Linda with a toolbox.

*At the crime scene, the victim (Gary) was killed by being pushed out his office window and impaled on a sculpture. Lucifer arrives still in his (assless) orgy pants.

*A witness tells Chloe that Gary was being stalked. Chloe notices a woman sketching the crime scene, and finds the stalker in the older pages of her sketchbook.

*Maze returns to the penthouse to find a bored Eve sitting around waiting for Lucifer, and invites her to come out and party with her.

*Amenadiel encounters sister angel Remiel, who has sensed the presence of a new celestial on Earth. She assumes Lucifer spawned the angel-baby, and plans to find it and take it up to heaven for eternity.

*Lucifer returns to the penthouse expecting Eve but finds Dr. Linda waiting for him, concerned that he's missed his last 3 sessions. She says that trying to split himself apart and be one person at work and one in his relationship is unsustainable, but he ignores her advice as usual, and rushes back off to work.

*He joins Chloe in her car, to stake out the car of the stalker they've identified by using facial recognition software on the drawing of the stalker. Later, when Lucifer has fallen asleep, she admits that though she wants to be happy for Lucifer, the way he's happy now is making her uncomfortable and jealous. Vincent arrives, and turns out to be the red herring suspect, but gives them a clue as to Gary's whereabouts in Malibu before the murder.

*Eve and Maze return to the penthouse from their partying. Eve talks about how Adam always loved his first wife, Lillith, more than he loved her, momentarily forgetting that Lillith was Maze's mother. A gift from Lucifer arrives - but he screwed up and sent her a printer that prints out his apology to Chloe. Meanwhile, at the precinct, Chloe finds a sex doll gift at her desk.

*At the precinct, Ella reveals that the murdered accountant's clothes were not his size, and Lucifer recognizes that the Malibu location contains a nudist sanctuary. At the sanctuary, the guard refuses to allow entry to clothed people, even cops, unless she can produce a warrant, so Lucifer and Ella immediately strip down to enter and question the nudists. (And while Netflix is happy to show asses, everyone's boobs are hidden by their hair or strategically-placed props.) They learn that Gary was seen arguing with Julian, son of the colony founder. Julian claims that there had been complaints against Gary for coming on too strongly to some women in the group, but Chloe arrives with her warrant and arrests him.

*Amenadiel misses Lamaze class to stay with Remiel at Lux pretending to help her look for Lucifer's angel-baby-mama. At Lamaze, Linda watches a birth video looking horrified, joined by Maze who brought popcorn (and asks to see the perineum tearing again). But when the class leader talks about the importance of a mother bonding with her baby, she looks unhappy and ghosts out on Linda.

*In the interrogation room, Chloe gets nothing out of Julian before his lawyers arrive and announce his $2 million bail has been paid. Dan lets Chloe know that Julian's father is a shipping magnate.

*Lucifer returns to the penthouse to find Eve is back, and tries to give her her apology, but Eve says she realizes he reminds her of how she was with Adam, trying to pretend to be what he wanted to get him to love her. Lucifer finds a note in his pocket and rushes back to the precinct. He tells Chloe, Dan, and Ella that someone must have slipped the note, which says Marigold, into his clothes when was naked, and Ella finds it's the name of a ship due to arrive at the docks that evening.

*Lucifer and Chloe stake out the dock and have a heartfelt conversation. When the ship arrives, they see that Julian is trafficking women. A shootout ensues and when Julian gets away Chloe tells Lucifer to catch him. Lucifer does, but decides to try to do the good thing and leave his punishment to the police, but then Julian drops a bunch of barrels on top of Lucifer, and shoots rookie cop Joan to get away. Dan berates Lucifer for causing another death just like Charlotte's.

*Remiel grows frustrated with the fruitlessness of the hunt, and eventually Amenadiel reveals the truth of his being the father, and says he will protect his child from her.

*Linda opens the tool chest to discover it contains a baby blanket. Maze tells her it's something she never got from her own mother, and Linda says she is Auntie Maze and will always be a member of her family.

*Julian scrambles to pack a bag to go on the run, only to find Lucifer waiting in the shadows. He is unrepentant, and tries to shoot Lucifer to death to no avail, and Lucifer kicks him through the window. As Eve looks on, he proclaims himself the devil and stomps on Julian.

I hadn't realized that Amenadiel hadn't regained his time-slowing power along with his wing restoration - if getting his wings back was a matter of will & faith, why wouldn't he have that back as well?

I'm not sure I fully followed all the details of the case. Why did Lucifer get a note with the name of the next human trafficking ship in his pocket? Why did accountant switch clothes with bad guy? And if he died shortly after being nude (hence wearing wrong clothes) how did he end up back at the office for his death? And why did Maze put a baby blanket in a tool chest?

On the other hand, I'm really enjoying the supernatural antagonist of the season. Eve is so sweet and so genuine and so amoral. It's clear that she has no bad intentions, but it's interesting how she influences Lucifer add brings out the worst in him.

Yeah, this was probably the worst-written procedural sub-plot of the season, it really doesn't hold up to any scrutiny. Still an enjoyable episode, what with all the nudity and character developments, but, very "pay no attention to the writers behind the curtain!" crime-of-the-week-wise.

And why did Maze put a baby blanket in a tool chest?

She doesn’t know how to wrap but she gets that presents are meant to be a surprise.

Plus, then Linda has a tool chest. Everybody needs a tool chest.

Eve is such a delight as a sort of villain, because she’s really illustrating “the road to hell is paved with bad intentions.” She just wants to love Lucifer and make him happy, and she doesn’t see how you can be made long term happier by becoming something more than you are. Similarly, when she ultimately goes after Chloe (telegraphed last episode) its going to only be with love in her heart, and regret someone has to get hurt, but pure love for Lucifer behind it,
