Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese (2019)

A 2019 American pseudo-documentary film, composed of both fictional and non-fictional material, covering Dylan's 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue concert tour. Directed by Martin Scorsese, it is the director's second film on Bob Dylan, following 2005's No Direction Home. The bulk of Rolling Thunder Revue is compiled of outtakes from Dylan's 1978 film Renaldo and Clara, which was filmed in conjunction with the tour.

I was completely taken in by the faux elements of the film right up to the appearance of Michael Murphy as Tanner, at which point I was all “huh!?!?”.

The performances in this film are phenomenal. Dylan seems possessed at times. It’s totally wonderful. I recently received the box set associated with this film and it matters not at all to me that the night by night set list variation between the five complete shows is slight. These are some of the best live performances i’ve Ever seen or heard.

I loved this! The concert footage is front and center, and Dylan's intensity and magnetic stage presence is never more evident. I've always loved Desire, and since this tour was pretty much in support of those tunes I was immediately captivated. That version of Isis was lightning.
