Big fan of John Hawkes from 'Deadwood.' IMDB says that he auditioned for Pinker in the last episode but had this written specifically for him.

Is... he considered physically attractive?

I can see the angle where an anguished writer (with amazing hair) looking like him evokes some Percy Bysshe Shelley/ Lord Byron stuff. But in general?

lol, the "16 year old kid" was played by a 29 yo actor. It's not that gross, the girl was 26.

This episode is so unbearably pretentious. The script reads like it was written by some 21-year-old white male film studies or creative writing student who thinks he's made some profound comment on the writing process. Padgett is a shitty writer and a creep. He's getting actual people murdered because he's writing so vividly about it [eyeball roll] but it doesn't occur to him to consequently stop fucking writing about murder until it's the woman he's obsessed with who is in danger.

And Scully is drawn in by all this -- attracted in spite of herself, unable to resist Padgett's supposed in-depth knowledge of who she is. Ugh.

Notice how Padgett is a smoker? Murdering people by proxy for the sake of your supposed art is pretty evil.

Mulder does not come across well in this episode in terms of respecting the law.
