Why did this get so serious with such an absurd premise? Would’ve been more fun if it just rode the fish out of water story for 90 absurd minutes.

Yeah, there was a real tone mismatch, and the characters weren't developed with the kind of weight they would need to carry the ending of the movie. I also wanted to like it a lot more.

Another wanted to like more. Am happy it did not go full slapstick absurd and understand why having the two fight, basically to minimize screen time together. Was going to comment about the dangling plot thread, how did Hershel get across the atlantic to slutsk so fast when I realized that the entire film was dangling plot threads, and that's it's odd charm.

Some funny moments, but I really don’t understand the choice to make it also serious about religion and family. It sadly was not written well enough to carry all that.
