This episode isn't perfect. But it hits so many marks that for the first time I really feel it would be a missed opportunity for NBC to kill the show. For a while, I wondered if maybe the best thing wouldn't be for the show to end and the cast to graduate to an R-rated movie that could adapt the comics a little more closely; while the ratings may not support the show, surely the viewership could support a modestly budgeted film, I figured, especially one that promised to level up from what they could do on network television. Watching this, though, I feel like the show has found a groove that could lead to something pretty good, and I wonder if what I've been watching isn't akin to the awkward first year of Buffy or Angel. I'd like to see it get the chance to grow up, preferably in a better timeslot.

Agreed. The show is hitting it's stride and I hope it goes on.

I'm surprised by the smoking though: I thought there was an actual network rule against it, so was that not true or are the showrunners giving the finger to the network? If so, perfect! That's exactly what Constantine would do.

My pet peeve with this episode was how they handled Lilith, one of the most slandered characters in all mythology. Her great crime was refusing to be subservient to Adam simply because he was male, and for that she was turned into a demon. She's not the bad guy in that story, God is. It'd be nice to get a more nuanced portrayal of her than just the evil baby-snatcher.

The demon was Lamashtu, not Lilith (though John did through her name out there when he was trying to figure out who it was).

Oh.

Never mind.

Bug of the moment for me is that we're finding more about John, Zed, Manny and even Papa Midnight, but so far Chas is a mystery.

It seems that there are several battles going on and the divisions aren't clear. Remember Papa's prophecy that John would be betrayed by someone he trusts.
