The world of The Witcher expands in this anime origin story: Before Geralt, there was his mentor, Vesemir, a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin. But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past. [Netflix, 83 minutes, animated]

I...wanted to like this? The voice acting felt extremely flat, like it was missing the dynamism that I enjoyed in Castlevania. Some of the talent behind the characters seems like it should have led to better performances, but I could barely concentrate on the story because I was so fixated on trying to pinpoint why everyone sounded so bored and disconnected from the animation. Apparently this studio also animated Kipo and the Wonderbeasts and most of The Legend of Korra and the producer was also behind the Netflix Witcher adaptation, so I expected something more cohesive, but it just fell flat for me.

That said, there's a good chance I'm just not the target audience; I'm an extremely casual Witcher fan, so I likely missed a lot of things that might have been exciting or satisfying to see on screen.

Vesemir is certainly the anti-Geralt what with all his yapping.
