Ah, thanks, this just popped up on youtube for me last night, it wasn't in my calendar otherwise. The prize task seemed interesting enough, but I'm saving the rest to, uh, subject my wife to later.

This was a lot better than the last New Year's Treat that I saw and there's a fun talk with the winner in the Taskmaster Podcast this week as well.

So sad we don't get to see Adrian in a full season. He was in it to win it, and he brought a fantastic energy to the show.

Yeah, he was a complete surprise - I'm sort of picturing like Joe Buck competing on Taskmaster and it's not like that at all....

Alex seemed to lose his shit far more than he usually does. Good competition, I wonder if the one-day format could help with the energy, compared to a full season's worth of tasks. Which, to be fair, always sort of seems like it's filmed over a week or two, but still, that's more than a Day Out With Alex for the contestants.

Greg and Alex laughed a lot in this one during the in-theater segments, the panel really tickled them. The live task was hilarious! The contestants did a great job with their one shot and even though they aren't comedians they rose to the occasion and embraced the format.

And it struck me that they no longer were doing Covid precautions - the live audience was back in the theater and the participants (and Greg and Alex) were sitting close together again. I wonder if they Series 13 will be back to the old format or if they will need to resume distancing again.

It was a very satisfying watch, and the studio task was one of the best ever. I liked that each of them, looking at four other contestants, agreed with my own assessment of which ones would be easiest to render in the notoriously challenging "random-ball-plus-assorted-art-supplies" medium in 100 seconds.

Having a live audience really makes a difference doesn’t it? Good to have it back. I suspect the next champion of champions was probably filmed around this time too so hopefully will also have a live audience.

Agreed: this was a vast improvement over last year's New Year's special. Not just Adrian was in it to win it—and everyone provided good and well-rounded entertainment. A solid hours worth of laughs and things that make you go hmm.
