The picture's not pretty when an art thief is on the loose; an heiress Julia Granger is killed, and her husband becomes the suspect.

Jessica is visiting her old friend Lloyd Marcus who has asked to to look at a novel a friend of his has written. The very night she arrives, someone breaks into Lloyd's house and steals a valuable painting. In fact, he's the fourth victim of such a crime, something that is worrisome to town mayor and insurance agent Frank Tilley. Lloyd's daughter and son-in-law live in the house next door and when he and Jessica find the front door open, they go in to find his daughter lying dead on the floor. Jessica works with a new police chief, a transplanted New York cop, to find the killer.

I don't have anything to say, really, except that I too have a model car collection that will be unappreciated by my heirs.
