Bad Sisters: Eye for an Eye
September 9, 2022 1:38 AM - Season 1, Episode 5 - Subscribe

Matt discovers a few unsettling family secrets that Thomas has not shared with him; we discover how Bibi lost her eye.

In the present: Matt and Thomas interview Bibi, and although she tries not to give too much away, her wife Nora indignantly discloses that JP was responsible for the loss of Bibi’s eye via a car accident. Matt discovers that Thomas has lied to him about their father’s death—death by suicide, not accidental overdose—and the reason for it: their father had been taking their clients’ money and spending it on himself, meaning there is not enough left to pay out the insurance claim to Grace and Blanaid. In the past: We learn how JP was responsible for the car accident that claimed Bibi’s eye. Eva has a lovely date with Gabriel from work, then is mortified to discover that he is not attracted to women and just wants to be friends with her. JP continues to bait their neighbour Roger online, posing as a young boy, “Oscar.” Roger foils JP’s attempts to frame him for grooming a child by shutting down the chat in disgust, disappointing JP greatly. Grace timidly joins a dance class in an effort to counteract Blanaid’s accusations that she never does anything for herself, but is overcome with anxiety and flees. JP is once again inadvertently responsible for the death of a small animal, this time the kitten the aunts got Blanaid after Oscar the dog’s death, and he manages to throw the blame on Grace, causing even more of a rift between her and Blanaid. The sisters plot to kill JP at a paintball session using Bibi’s sharpshooter skills, but it all goes horribly wrong, and Bibi inadvertently shoots someone else in the eye, causing her even more anguish.

Hooo boy what an episode. There was so much going on, to me it felt like two episodes in one almost. I was so heartbroken for Eva! I was really rooting for her and Gabriel; he seemed like such a lovely person and a great potential boyfriend.

The part where JP chased the kitten into the road where it got run over…ugh! This episode almost pushed me to the limits of how much JP I can stand in 50 minutes. Oh god, and the way he set up the paintball game so that EVERYONE would be shooting at Grace!! I had to suspend my disbelief for that part…I just can’t believe a paintball place would spring that on the “bunny” the way they sprang it on Grace. It was awful.

Poor Bibi. I feel like the tagline for this show should be, “Everyone wants JP dead…and after you watch this, you will too!”

JP is so wicked that I'm not sure I would still be watching if not for the way the show is structured. And it isn't showing my best side that I'm glad I already know he winds up dead more than once each episode.

I told my partner, “I don’t think I could have kept watching if we weren’t told in absolute terms he definitely ends up dead, right at the beginning of the first episode.”
