Abbott Elementary: Juice
October 20, 2022 8:47 PM - Season 2, Episode 5 - Subscribe

Janine is thrilled to help introduce a new beverage to the cafeteria, but it ends up causing unexpected consequences; Melissa clashes with her new aide, Ashley, who brings more disruption than help to the classroom.

I really enjoy that they've increased the role of Mr Johnson this season. "Everyone has to use the upstairs bathroom. And I pray to the Mario Brothers they hold."

Barbara with a bat was very satisfying.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But if it is broke and you can't get it fixed, break it some more.

I want the whole next episode to be Janine trying to figure out how to get rid of the baseball bat before she just says out loud, "Why would Barbara even have a baseball bat at school? What kind of teacher just has a baseball... oh, right... Melissa, I think this is yours?"

So that one kid seems to have broken all the toilets? Maybe the juice was not the problem.

I loved Melissa's "if I break this yardstick in half out of anger, how long will the pieces be." Also, her illustrations on the whiteboard were great!

This show is way kinder to people than I could ever be--Gregory's method to finally work with the disruptive kid last episode and Melissa finding a way to get her aide to actually function as one. Honestly, I was hoping Melissa would be taking repossession of the bat (OF COURSE Melissa has a bat taped under her desk!) and making use of it.

Ava is just so unbelievably horrible and yet she makes me laugh. This show is kind of miraculous that way.

Ava is terrible but not in a truly bad way? This episode where she explained that the little kids sent to her office arrive already extremely stressed and so she comforts them and she pointedly calls him to the office to experience what it’s like for a little kid - that was a weird but effective strategy. She’s absolutely selfish but not cruel.

She’s absolutely selfish but not cruel.

Her comments to/about Janine are often patently cruel. I haven’t been keeping track, but I think she’s made similar comments to/about Gregory and Jacob (policing their manliness, IIRC), and she’s definitely made similar comments about kids, though I’m not sure she’s done it to their faces. She treats the kids who get sent to her nicely because she doesn’t want to be perceived as mean. She’s just weak when it counts and claims some higher purpose that’s she’s never shown to believe in when it might inconvenience her.
