Constantine: Quid Pro Quo

John, Zed and Chas race to save Chas's daughter after her soul is taken by an evil wizard.
Damnit, my browser crashed and tool my mini-review.
Suffice to say this episode feels a bit off, but still solid. The Chas origin was nice, but doesn't feel like it added anything to the character. Which is odd considering that he carries all those souls with him, but they don't seem to weigh on him.
The Rising Darkness is still rising! But in the background and slowly. Is it like the Force, slowly awaking from a long nap? And what is John's long term playing in making Chas invulnerable? 'Cause you know that won't be pretty.
Solid episode, but with only 3 left in the season, and probably the series, it'd be nicer if things moved along and came together a bit smoother.

Good episode, got a little motivation, a great guest... hope this bears more fruit.

The show seems comfortable in its skin for the first time these last few episodes. Regardless of whether Constantine (the series) is a faithful adaptation of the comics -- hard to do anyhow, because the comics have neither a single author nor a uniform tone -- the show works best as a romp that keeps the horror stuff a little toned-down and emphasizes the relationship between the characters. The show could have been another Hannibal, sure, but it's shaping up to be an enjoyable, slightly more grown-up cousin to the CW superhero shows, and that's okay. At this point, I suspect that it will survive in some form even if NBC cancels it -- it's just doing too many things right.
