It’s both entertaining and horrifying to watch Steve make horrendous decision after horrendous decision.

I’m still a bit annoyed at the constant “hey, I have an idea!” type discoveries of brilliant strategies, but at least Nick, as rotten as he is, isn’t disastrously fucking up on the regular.

Just having Steve once in a while admit he’s making mistakes would go a long way toward sympathy, but he’s just incapable of it. He’s really a perfect example of a specific type of toxic masculinity. Sorry about your mum, Steve, but you suck.

I still have some empathy for Steve but he's terrible. He's so conceited! Sure, the title of this episode gave it away but when he didn't bother to look at the proofs ...

Also, his hubris deciding, yes, he'd sign this napkin not knowing what the word meant was just ... oh honey.

Kumail Nanjiani does such a wonderful job of bringing nuance to Steve. He becomes complicated through his performance -- he's a sweet person who just got way out of his depth and that brought out his darker side. I still think he's better than this show deserves but he's also why I'm watching this show.

It's not bad -- it is incredibly entertaining to watch. But it's also the sort of thing where I know it ends badly so I'm also watching it to see how badly it ends.

Absolutely, Nanjiani gives a lot of substance and nuance to the role. I sympathize with him based on the character's trauma, including trauma as an immigrant, but then he goes and does bone-headed stuff/ makes decisions based on his regressive/ repressed upbringing.

Irene's evil turn was a lot of fun to watch. I think the last two episodes will be really strong.

kitten kaboodle, I agree that those ah-ha moments are overused.

I also thought the "always check the proofs" flashback was both too on-the-nose and too proximate to that scene. A similar scene could have been worked into the funeral episode.
