Janine's mom shows up.
Seriously, Janine's mom looks like she should be Ava's mom. And they know each other from dancing on the same tables. Vanetta (the mom) of course only shows up when she needs phone money, just as Janine has enough money for a solo vacation. Barbara (and Melissa) take offense at that, Barbara actually offers her all of the money and Janine walks in to hear this.
In the end, Janine offers partial payment, but is keeping her vacation. Janine is touched/embarrassed by Barbara's offer.

The casting on this show is so great. Going to start scoping out Wendy O'Brien cast projects.
Aww, Janine being proud but defensive about her solo vacation, and then everyone being surprisingly supportive was so sweet. I love my people, but solo vacations are the shit, especially for a weekend length trip. No negotiating! Pure relaxation.
I also enjoyed the Gregory sucks at connecting with people plot, especially Jacob's line at the end about connection being like baseball - weird boring stuff happens and then there's a home run. (I like small ball, but I get what he's saying.)

I loved that the earth day crafts were being made with materials like plastic glitter and styrofoam and that Ava even called out their indestructibility.
Also loved that Ava respected Vanetta’s ability and reason to beat her ass. I replayed that a couple times because it made me laugh so much.
Gregory is so wonderfully square, I just adore him.

As someone who struggles with small talk, I was wincing in empathy during Gregory's early attempts, and glad he found a way to connect with information sharing (which I find a little easier to manage than vague unfocused chat).
Seeing Janine's mom in action helped me understand Janine's sister a little more. If that's the way the favorite child gets treated, I can only imagine how it is to be the black sheep.
