Special Event: Ring Of Honor: Death Before Dishonor 2023
July 21, 2023 1:01 PM - Subscribe

It is the 20th Death Before Dishonor in the promotions history, and the first in a long, long time without with Jay or Mark Briscoe. But as the brand finds its new footing as a companion to AEW, both legacy talent and brand new names will enter the ring. (NB: This post is going up a few hours early because THIS GUY has floor seats to the show.)

The announced card for tonight:

Zero Hour Matches (not on the PPV)
--Action Andretti & Darius Martin vs. Anthony Henry & JD Drake
--Leyla Hirsch vs. Trish Adora
--AR Fox vs. Shane Taylor
--Josh Woods vs. Tracy Williams

Main card:

Komander vs. Gravity
Fun fact: I originally thought this match was some kind of rib, that Komander was booked to defeat "Gravity" as a goof on all his high flying antics, and then I find out that really, there is a luchador by that name. Go figure.
ROH World Six-Man Championships: Mogul Embassy (Bishop Kaun, Toa Liona, & Brian Cage) (c) vs. Master Wato, Ryusuke Taguchi, & Leon Ruffin
I'm grateful for anything that puts Wato and Taguchi in an American show, but those boys are about to run hard into the big meaty wall of Prince Nana's champions.
Fight Without Honor: The Dark Order (Evil Uno, John Silver, & Alex Reynolds) vs. The Righteous (Vincent, Dutch, & Stu Grayson)
aka The Battle for the Love of Stu Grayson. The Dark Order are legit trying to get themselves over again as a dangerous faction (at least in their ROH appearances), so winning a No-DQ brawl against the Wish dot com Wyatt Family would help in that regard.
ROH World Tag Team Championship: Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Miedo) (c) vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) vs. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) vs. Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher)
Did someone order a massive, fan-service spotfest? Because this is gonna be it right here.
ROH Women's Championship: Athena (c) vs. Willow Nightingale
This is tough to call. Willow certainly deserves it, and the Tony Khan Extended Universe probably needs at least one top woman who's not a heel, but on the other hand Athena doesn't deserve to lose it, you know?
ROH Pure Championship: Katsuyori Shibata (c) vs. Daniel Garcia
::checks notes:: OK Danny, looks like dick-dancing is not against Pure rules.
ROH TV Championship: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Dalton Castle
Joe was supposed to be out of this PPV doing promotional stuff for the Twisted Metal TV series, but the actor's strike meant he was back on the menu! Or really Dalton is on the menu, because Joe has said he will "pluck all his feathers" and I 100% believe it.
ROH World Championship: Claudio Castagnoli (c) vs. PAC
Some late substitutions here, originally this was going to be Claudio vs Eddie Kingston, but Eddie's currently making bank in NJPW's G1 tournament, then it was going to be Mark Briscoe but he got a legit injury. So now we get a continuation from this week's Blood & Guts 3, where PAC abandoned the Blackpool Combat Club in the middle of their match.

When I realized that Athena vs. Willow was going to main event, I thought They must have something surprising planned. I didn't expect that "something surprising" would be the best match of the week in a week that had Blood and Guts and Royal Rampage.
