Well, that was another episode. Something something woke.

I went into it really afraid that it was going to end up being South Park levels of "The Woke is out of control!" but it was merely meh. This season is just not hitting for me at all.

Etrigan, I am sad to agree with you.

Silence! I concur.

We've got two episodes left before a hiatus, then another ten afterwards. I'm really hoping for something actually essential in all of that.

Supposedly a season 12 too, but we'll see how that plays out with the reception of this season, the ongoing strikes, and the uncertainty in the streaming market right now.

I was really hoping after all this time that the creators would only have signed on because they had some truly original ideas, not just nostalgia and tepid political-commentary-of-the-week.

The vibe of this season is that they had no interest in making any more shows but were finally offered a big enough pile of money and figured, ok sure we can shit out some more episodes if you like.

Also, even though they weren't firmly on the stop-woke train, two crucial plot points here are "what about the people who like being groped" and therefore "in the end, don't we need the 'politically incorrect' people?"

Also, Kif takes leave to spend time with his kids, but the punchline is that Amy gives the orders?

You know what, this episode was actually pretty regressive. It only seemed less so because the jokes weren't funny enough to land those messages.

In fairness, “actually kind of regressive” has secretly been on-brand for Futurama since kind of the beginning

most episodes this season, I at least got a laugh from a background gag at minimum, but man, this episode was so… mediocre

like why can’t it at least be bad enough to be worth having feelings about it one way or the other

That may be the harshest single line of criticism I’ve read on Fanfare, truly—and well deserved. For me, maybe the worst thing any creative work can do is be boring. Even bad things have a kind of commitment and are interesting in how they fail, but indifferent work? That’s the worst, utterly disrespectful of our time and energy as an audience.

I see your contempt for me, new Futurama, and will respond by disengaging.
