Spy x Family Code: White (2023)

After receiving an order to be replaced in Operation Strix, Loid decides to help Anya win a cooking competition at Eden Academy, by making the director's favorite meal in order to prevent his replacement.

You probably already know whether you like this franchise. Fake marriage where the spouses might be catching real feelings! An orphan girl yelling "I'll see you in hell!" at a fair-game target! Poop jokes! ...A lot of poop jokes.

I will say, it does not strain credulity at all that every woman in a five-mile radius swoons over Loid.

I mean, one of the whole core conceits of Spy x Family is the concept of found family and that the bonds we build are the ones we matter. The series also does an excellent job in making what would be gamebreaking powers - telepathy and precognition - less so by giving them to a) a young girl who while able to read the thoughts of others does not have the life experience to properly frame them, with a heaping scoop of imagination on top, and b) a dog, whose ability to act on his precognition is limited by virtue of being a canine.

I have tickets to see this on Friday. I was looking forward to it anyway, but having read the synopsis at the start of this post I am now ultra-excited to wallow in some wholesome antics. The movie we need in these trying times.

I think you'll be happy with it, Aznable, so long as you don't have anything against poop jokes.

Poop jokes! ...A lot of poop jokes.

I read this post when it went up, and thought “huh, did I somehow miss a bunch of poop jokes in the series?” Now, after seeing the movie last night, I understand that this was referring to the movie. And it’s correct, the poop really runneth over with this one.

Irregardless, I enjoyed it, especially the fact they didn’t compromise the generally inconsequential/low-stakes plotting of the series. At the end of the day some “wakuwaku!” stuff happened, Anya had some funny lines, and everything worked out ok for the Forgers. Same thing’s probably going to happen tomorrow, and I’ll gladly tag along for the ride again.

An absolute delight. But yes, maybe 70% of the way through the movie I thought “… huh I was warned there would be poop jokes? What gives?” and then they made up for lost time there. The entire “God of Poop” segment was just astounding.

The movie checked every box, and then also gave you The God of Poop just to make sure they gave you something you did not expect too as a bonus item.

Many great Anya faces throughout, but my favorite was probably the stone face at the end when Loid said “Oh yeah I used to pilot enormous military dirigibles in high school” Amazing.

10 out of 10 Borfs.

Not to be dramatic, but I would die for Bond.

But he would look into the future, see the actions that led to you dying for him and act to prevent that from occurring. Because he is the best boy.
