X-Men '97: Lifedeath — Part 2

Storm is forced to face her worst fears in order to free herself. Meanwhile, Charles is forced to make nice with his future in-laws.
Kind of a letdown after the previous episode but hopefully it's setting the stage for something fun. I've never been a fan of the Shi'ar stories (most of the X-Men in space stories feel like they drift too far from the core themes of the series) and the Adversary is one of the less iconic villains, but at least we didn't have to muddle through a long arc of Storm being depowered.
I wasn't expecting to get Cassandra Nova out of this show but as the architect of the Genoshan massacre Sinister is maybe the most boring probable choice. '97 is just after Onslaught arrived on the scene and with Xavier and Magneto (who I don't think is dead) both in a state of emotional turmoil it seems like the appropriate moment for him to debut in the animated series. Not that I have much affection for his storyline, but it feels like we just did Sinister-related stuff with the Inferno episode.

I didn't realise that Storm could do a Sailor Moon style costume change. But I'm here for it.

From Nightcrawler getting his bit in the opening title to Storm's new old drip, this was a real banner episode for Dave Cockrum designs (plus you got the Imperial Guard - hey wait, is that VULCAN! Ha! That's seeding for an episode down the line).
IIRC, Storm does actually have the power of costume change! I think there's some early comics where she changes from civvies to costume by using micro-lightning to electrically change the atoms of the clothing, or somesuch. Maybe unstable molecules were involved?
I liked it when Xaiver was like, "Wait a second, I forgot my greatest gift! I'M AN OMEGA LEVEL TELEPATH!!!" and then proceeds to put everyone in the astral classroom (another bit from the Grant Morrison New X-Men run, along with a direct quote this episode!)
I'm assuming that Magneto is alive, and probably ready to do a face-heel turn on humanity ala New X-Men. If he had died, I think that he would have been the giant looming specter of death in Charles' mind, instead of BONE GAMBIT (and speaking of, I wonder if this will lead into an eventual Gambit as the new Horseman of Death?). My real question is, will we get Xorn? Onslaught? I'm having a lot of fun trying to predict what X-Men stories that came after the cartoon they'll be trying to adapt next!

Maybe? Xorn makes no damn sense but it's a cartoon so that's legit.

Nightcrawler getting his bit in the opening titleMuch as I enjoyed it, it was a strange choice to add it in an episode in which he didn't appear.

The new Deadpool and Wolverine trailer appears to show why we won't be seeing Cassandra Nova in this series. She's busy.

I am here for it. I want this version of Chuck to get dumped into the 616, so I watch him lay waste to his counterpart.
Meanwhile, as a fellow claustrophobe, those spelunking scenes with Storm worked. My stomach dropped right out, especially with the coffin bit.
I also love any time the Legion of Superheroes gets to make an appearance.
