Embrace of the Serpent (2015)

This was the first Colombian film ever to receive an Oscar nomination (in 2015). It tells of an indigenous shaman, the last of his tribe, who accompanies two travelers deep into the Amazonian jungle, in search of a magical plant. In crisp B&W, except of a 2001-style "Stargate" coda in astonishing colors.

I saw this at TIFF and it’s fantastic.

I saw this at it's FNC screening in Montreal, in 2015 - was absolutely stunned, knew very little going in and was not expecting the plunge into deep space psychedelia it ultimately takes.

this movie is so great and I wish I could watch it again for the first time. it feels more like time travel than any film i’ve seen.

I loved this! I saw it when it came out and not since so I'm not sure I remember enough to say more. The storytelling is so bold and the themes are so clear and powerful without being heavyhanded.

This happened to pop up on one of the front page lists on my Kanopy app just the other day. What a great movie. I don't really have much to say, but it was an experience.
