Cobra Kai: Part III (and finale) of the Final Season
February 13, 2025 10:15 PM - Season 6 (Full Season) - Subscribe
While their students plan for life after karate, Daniel and Johnny clash over reviving the Sekai Taikai. Kreese reconsiders his guiding principles.
I almost bailed on this over the VR training scene, but stuck hate watching it for closure.

That’s not a very good review! I have only watched one episode of season 6 but it feels like it’s long past the shark hopping. Which is a bummer cause I loved its cheesy stuff before.
May just not bother knowing a VR training session is about to go down.

Did the VR harness include a part from a Lazer Tag set?

Yes.
There was some closure between Johnny/ Kreese/ Silver. The Kreese/ Silver thing was pretty f-ing ridiculous, but a nice '80s-movies-trope-callback.
Some good callback to the original movie - spoiler, no, Johnny does not win with a crane kick.
However there is a de-aged CG Mr. Miyagi. Yuck!
Otherwise it's pretty much a contrived happily-ever-after with all three "teen" couples squaring off.

lol. How else are you supposed to get rEaLiStiC hApTiC fEeDbAcK? /s
The harness included bits that looked kind of like a Nintendo powerglove...

I finished this yesterday and had a good time with it. I was very onboard with the show becoming an absolutely ludicrous adaptation of a high-school battle anime that doesn't exist around Season 4, so none of the wild swings that the show took this last season really fazed me. I laughed several times at the absolutely nonsensical rules of the Sekai Taikai, towards the end it was definitely getting into "well there's no rules that says a dog can't play basketball" territory. The CGI resurrection was the only part I wasn't onboard with.
For this last part, I did think that the first couple of episodes in here felt like there wasn't much of substance going on, but the last three were the solid mix of melodrama and cheese that this show does very well. Inspirational speeches and musical swells do so much heavy lifting. The happy endings were very contrived, but also felt very in-line with the overall tone of the show.

I enjoyed the wrap up of the show and felt that there was nothing that happened in the final episodes that hasn't been matched in melodramatic fashion in the past seasons of the show. Cobra Kai is just that type of show. Similarly to C^3, I appreciated everything other than the Pat Morita resurrection. It was bad enough that I thought for a moment they had actually cast a look-a-like instead of going that route.
It took me a several rewinds to catch the 80s era catch phrase between Silver and Kreeze:
Not sure what the problem people are having with the VR session. It was silly, and yes, 100% a laser tag sensor from the 80s incorporated into the outfit, but it's just the tech periphery of reality breaking as much as Johnny's training methods earlier in the show not resulting in serious injury and death in his students. Call it Augmented reality and it's not technically beyond the scope if the kids computers are up to snuff, as is. It also was maybe 10 minutes all together?
The last episode was such a hard turn to homage Rocky III despite Daniel professing his love for the OG. I kept wondering if that was intended to stick a question of doubt about Johnny's chances in the match.
The Mr. Miyagi mystery of the Sekai Taikai concluded like the writers ran out of time and needed to take a bigger story and wrap it up real quick for the finale. Alternative theory is that they're planning on doing a prequel show built all around it. Not to mention, I think the show creators gave themselves a cameo about rebooting with an alternate 1985 or something to that design.
And for those missing the Karate Kid universe... Karate Kid: Legends, a film that brings together the reboot with Jackie Chan (using Kung Fu) and the original films. Here's the trailer! One thing I noticed, and maybe this was true for more than the last season, but Will Smith was listed as a producer of Cobra Kai, and he was a primary driver behind the reboot which featured his kid (absent from this trailer). It's not clear if the events of Cobra Kai took place in the cinematic history of this film, however.

Silver, in horror: NOOOOO! [as cigar flies through the air toward gasoline]Other than the Iron Dragon sensei asking where Silver was, there was absolutely no follow up on his absence or Kreeze's for the main characters. I felt there should have been something more, granted, Kreeze kind of did his farewell tour.
Kreeze, smiling: MERCY! [BOOOOOOM!]
