Mystery Science Theater 3000: FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS
March 18, 2015 6:57 PM - Season 2, Episode 11 - Subscribe

(1960, Color, Sci-Fi, Venus, Space Travel, International, German, Soviet, Stanislaw Lem) "You are there... on man's most exciting, most incredible journey!" "This Is A First! Fantastic! Unforgettable!" Based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem, an international team arrives on Venus to investigate the origin of an alien artifact. What they find: ruin, death, and a rapidly growing supply of pudding. The first outright Soviet movie Joel and company ran up against, but not as charming as The Day The Earth Froze. A very odd film, but with nice host segments, including the Klack Holiday Commercial and an exploding Servo head. Can you believe we're nearing the end of Season Two already? Prepare yourselves: next time we have a real doozy.... YouTube (YouTube 1h37m) First aired: December 29, 1990.

Today is turning weird for me, I'm aiming to have shows at 5 amd 7ET but it's possible I'll have to cancel the one at 5. Also, I probably won't be at the usual (physical)place I host these, so there may be other unforseen problems. Same URL as before though.

URL is, as before:

It's running shorts right now, but I won't really be around until we get close to 5 PM Eastern. Fortunately, we have a dutiful projectionist.

Some day, I'll be able to make one of these.

Is there a time that would work better for you, Chrysostom?

That's super thoughtful of you, JHarris, but I'm usually juggling my kids until like 9:30. Which is too late to be reasonable, I think.

Some time, though!

Is that Eastern time? 9:30 PM Eastern isn't that much later than our usual second showing. Tonight is weird though because I'm at a bookstore, not the house as usual (internet provider is being changed today).

Is this the episode with the "Bedebedebede" robot? because that is forever etched into my memory

It might, I remember there's a robot in this one.

Sadly, looks like I'm stuck here at work till late tonight, I'll try to get home for the later showing, but I'll be back for next week's epic.

Ah, it is the bedebede one, the robot just showed up.

This is the episode with the classic KLACK holiday commercial, based on Ed Herlihy's old Kraft ads. I had never seen one of those, so I looked them up on YouTube. Here's one of them. Mmm-mm-mm, use Cheez-Whiz to make fondue!

My browser crashed so I left without saying goodbye, but thanks as usual for the show! Man, what a pointless movie, but they sure managed to reduce the diversity of the living by the end!

Heh, no problem ilana, thanks for joining us!

I'm not sure if there will be a show next week as I might be out of town. But whether the net show happens next week or the one after, it's going to be a real winner. Seriously, one of the best episodes of the entire run of MST3K. ROBOT MONSTER had the movie but first season riffng. This one has the movie and the riffing. The first must-see episode of the show, and one of the best introductory eps too.
