Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries: King Memses' Curse

In investigating a murder, Phryne discovers the leading suspect's involvement in a bizarre reincarnation cult, inspired by ancient Egypt.

Father O'Leary: Is it an urgent confession you're after?
Phryne: No, thank you. My sins are too many and varied to mention, and frankly I intend to continue sinning, so I won't waste your time.

The conscious paralysis stuff was effectively creepy, but, the murder plot makes less sense to me this second time around. Did Murdoch have some kind of blackmail material over Theresa? If it was mentioned in the show, I missed it, so, I can't see any reason why she wouldn't have taken the drugged girl to the nearest police officer rather than dropping her off at the nearest church. Same goes for Henry Rhodes, doesn't make any sense for him to lead Jack into Murdoch's clutches rather than getting Jack to help him overpower Murdoch.
