Under the Dome: Breaking Point
August 12, 2015 11:46 AM - Season 3, Episode 8 - Subscribe

Christine emerges from the slime cocoon and demands that Junior bring her the head of Sam Verdreaux. The remaining purple rocks need to be excavated and Norrie and Joe, caught after stealing Christine's plan, are forced into the mine. Then Big Jim decides to settle this mine business for once and for all.

Norrie challenges her mother to "feel" again and she does, but it's too late.

A V Club review
Best quote of the entire series:
Big Jim describing his team: “A cripple, two horny teenagers, and a plucky newspaper girl.”

Did they get new writers? Because I feel that the last three or four episodes have been so superior to anything previously. Julia (no more of that I am the Monarch bullsh*t) teaming up with Big Jim (guns, dog..this is my town.. not much has changed there) against the zombie townsfolk. Actually I don't remember much except that Norrie had that big scene with her trapped mom and that was well done I thought.

I figured the apocalypse was an illusion but what a lame reveal.

I did like that Jim felt the need to use dozens of bombs and managed to synchronize them all.

The episodes are all credited to different writers. That's not unusual for a show this size although it really feels like the writers don't talk to each other at all.

The ratings fell again. Part of me wants the show put out of its misery. The other part of me will totally follow the show to the CW, Hulu and finally a web series about whoever was chasing girl-Hunter out of that room.

Has it really only been three weeks still?

We totally laughed when Colin Ford (Joe) said to Mackenzie Lintz (Norrie) "You still have me" and she said sarcastically, "Oh goody" or something like that - my partner had just called Joe a wet blanket.

The best scene, for me, was when Norrie was trying to break the programming of her mom (played by Aisha Hinds) - when she had to switch gears and tell her some painful lies to try to wake her up. And the whistling that her mom did was absolutely chilling. (What is it with whistling on this show? Junior did it when he set his father's house on fire and made a stand against him - another great moment in the show. It's like they cannot get enough of people doing a 'fuck you' whistle.)

I think the writers just snapped. This episode was full of hilariously wry self-deprecating commentary, the best being called out here with the “A cripple, two horny teenagers, and a plucky newspaper girl.”

The writers of Under the Dome are just as trapped by the Dome as their characters. And as we are, the poor viewers. They're getting a little punchy.
