Mystery Science Theater 3000: HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN
December 17, 2015 1:29 AM - Season 4, Episode 10 - Subscribe
"Planets on collision course as Earth's mightiest titan battles Moon Monsters!" Herc fights against rock monsters from space that are aided by the evil Queen Samar. Prepare for DEEP HURTING. This is the second "Hercules" movie the crew of the SOL witnessed, although in name only. Maciste is a venerable strongman character of Italian cinema that, alas, few Americans know about. So when this got released in the States he was renamed Hercules for this movie that has very little to do with mythology. This is the movie that has the interminable "saaand stooorm" sequence that drives our heroes to tears. YouTube (1h32m) Premiered August 22, 1992.

So many 'warm-up' movies to choose from! Even something 'Herculean' ("Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon" and "Hercules In the Haunted World" haven't been 'MSTied' yet) but I prefer more contemporary heroics right now like James Coburn's Bond-clone turned self-satirical "Our Man Flint" or the future soap opera icon Eric Braedon as inventor of a Supercomputer Gone Bad in "Colossus: The Forbin Project" (ALMOST too good for serious riffing) or ubiquitous '60s TV guy Roy Thinnes in "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" (a Gerry Anderson joint with people, not puppets).
I must note that I have a Physical Therapy session scheduled for 3:30-4:30PM (if you don't know why, join my in chat.metafilter) and I'll be sore and looking for distraction by 4:35... see you then or B².

(that's 4:35 Pacific Time; I'm not expecting the pre-roll to start 4½ hours before the main show)

I'm sorry I missed this one, you guys! I had two parties to go to and a million papers to grade. Also now it is my birthday and I am 31 SO OOOOOLD. I wanted to celebrate with you, but, well, drinks in the real world. I miss you and hope to catch you next time (is there even one next week due to that weird Christian holiday?)

Okay, about that
The plan next week -- so far -- is to do a CHRISTMAS MARATHON, like we did last year. Some of the things we tried last year that didn't work out very well I believe I can fix now.
The biggest obstacle to doing this is that I have a big book project due by the end of the month, and a ton of work left to do on it. So I'm not making any promises yet.

This is a reminder that MST3K Club is officially taking the weekend off because of New Years and the Christmas Marathon we had last week.
Unofficially, though, we yet be doing something. Whatever it is that we do, it will NOT be in the sync-video room. Instead, we are trailing the use of cytu.be. The MST3K Club room there will be: https://cytu.be/r/Metafilter_MST3KClub.
An interesting thing about cytu.be is you can leave a playlist running pretty much 24/7, and it'll keep going even if no one's there! I may leave it running, between shows, with a sequence of MST episodes.

This is probably my #2 favorite MST3K episode. It's just one of the best combinations of host segments, riffs, and movie.

This is now on Netflix, so I watched it recently. Bad, omg so bad.
They weren't kidding about that sandstorm, huh? Literally had no idea what was going on for the whole time.
I agree with ob1quixote: I really liked the host segments! I usually find them to be hit or miss for me but I really liked the over-the-top sword piercing joke.

Last week we watched the inexplicable War Of The Robots for preroll filler. I don't know what (or if) we'll watch before the movie this time, but I have plenty of movies to choose from....
