Killjoys: Meet the Parents

In this episode we get introduced to Papa Jaqobis and Pawter's entire family, plus D'Avin gains a new perspective on Khlyen.
The body-swap is one of my favorite tropes, I was giddy when I realized D'Avin & Khlyen had switched. I thought both actors did a nice job of it.
So now we've got the potential for a rift between Dutch and Johnny, so bring on the soap opera.
I saw a tumblr post somewhere that I can't find, that said that the 'you're my gravity' line was supposed to be a callback to a line between Dutch & Khlyen that was cut, where she said 'hating you was my gravity'.

You're right. Usually body-swap scenes are awkward, but both actors did a really good job in portraying the physicality and style of the other. It was nice to see them both stretch their acting chops a bit and add some range to what they've been allowed to do on this show.
Even if that line didn't call back to one between Dutch and Khylen, I really liked it. It seemed to sum up Dutch's and Johnny's relationship perfectly and succinctly.

Yeah, huge props to both the actors for making that a really compelling body-swap.
I was a bit miffed that they just glossed over how okay the rest of the Nine were with her becoming lady of the land, considering her exile was still in effect at the time of her mother's death.
I would assume they'd rather deal with Pawter than deal with becoming the Eight. Her sister was the only other possibility and if her sister backs Pawter, then that's pretty well settled.

There were two things in this episode that made me verb a couple character names from other genre shows.
When Pawter cuts off her sister's hand I shouted "Oh, she Coulsoned her!"
When Dutch says to John "You'd tell me if something changed, right?" and he (unconvincingly) lies and says yes, I said "Ooh, he Oliver Queened it!"
Pawter's dad is also the clones' "dad" on Orphan Black. Pawter's mom looked familiar, but I haven't seen any of the few things on her IMDb page.
I'm on board with the John/Pawter relationship. I think both actors are making it believable.
I'm really glad we're getting more Fancy.
All in all I liked the episode. It wasn't the best standalone episode, but it was entertaining and it moved things forward. The writers seem very comfortable with their characters.
It seems to have become much more of an ensemble show than a "Dutch & Friends Adventure Hour" kind of thing. It makes sense narratively, and I like the cast so I enjoy them all getting more focus, but I really hope Dutch remains strongly at the center of the show.

I have no idea why Khlyen (and no, I didn't know that's how his name is spelled until I pulled up IMDB to get the title of this episode) can't just, for one, tell Dutch what he means in actual words instead of attempting to be all mysterious about it.
So now we've got the potential for a rift between Dutch and Johnny, so bring on the soap opera.
