Vikings: In the Uncertain Hour Before the Morning
December 23, 2016 8:54 AM - Season 4, Episode 14 - Subscribe
Lagertha and Aslaug face off over the rulership of Kattegat. Ubbe and Sigurd aren't happy with the results. Ragnar and King Ecbert meet again, and plan to fulfill what Ragnar sees as his fate.
Hey, remember last week when I rationalized Ragnar's slaughtering of his surviving men to protect the identity of Ivar? YEAH THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY WRONG. Ahem. Now I have no idea what his agenda was there.
Beyond that bit of info, I enjoyed the episode quite a bit! So much good happened in our two favorite places, Kattegat and Wessex.
I absolutely agree, the Ecbert/Ragnar chats were great and kind of underlined the weird friendship the two had with each other throughout the show. My heart was thrilled to see Aethelstan (sp?) come up, not just because I miss the character, but because he's the biggest bridge between the pair. We've figured Ragnar's end is near, but perhaps Ecbert will be kicking off, too?
Also, I guess Ragnar didn't sleep with the Queen of Mercia? Did I imagine that? I recall Ecbert slept with her, for sure, so was Magnus really Ecbert's son?
"I will tell my son that you did everything you could to save me, and when my sons come to take their revenge, they will spare you." I love the fatalistic aspect of Ragnar's reasoning, he's inflicting the greatest punishment he can on the English for killing his people by simply letting himself be killed.
Speaking of dying, farewell Aslaug.

What is everyone's read on Magnus getting kicked out? Was that Aethelwulf's idea or did Ecbert tell him to do it?

It read to me that it was Aethelwulf's idea to get Magnus on the road, perhaps believing his dad no longer cared a whit about Magnus if he weren't truly Ragnar's son.
