A shoot-to-kill manhunt is ordered by Capt. Renard, who's hell-bent on eliminating Nick once and for all after the loft massacre. AV Club recap - Grimm’s final season premiere shows there’s a lot of work to do before the end

So nice to see Bud again. And glad Robert Blanche's Sgt. Franco got to do a little more than exposition-dumping. I first noticed him in Leverage as Detective Bonnano, seeing him in uniform on Grimm always makes me feel like he was demoted.

I'm just glad they're finally introducing metaphysical lore to the show. Hopefully it'll build to something substantial now that they have a finite number of episodes to deal with it.

This episode felt very rushed: like they left a lot of dangling ends from last season's finale and now they're scrambling to pull them all together into a coherent story. (And into one that leads to a satisfying conclusion, one hopes.)

The Death Grip feels like too significant an addition to the lore to be a throwaway thing. Prediction: someone's going to get dragged into Hell, someone's going to have to go get them back, and the Stick is going to be a tool to enable that.

I'm worried though that this final season is going to be all heavy overarching plot with no room left for fun monster-of-the-week stories.

I didn't realize this would the be the final season! I feel like they still have so much lore to deal with! But it does feel like a lot of things are reaching a certain the-point-of-no-return if you ever wanted things to go back to the way they were. I'm excited though, I love it when shows evolve beyond their weekly trope.

Be interesting to see how they move this forward. I don't see Nick being a fugitive the rest of the series but how do you come back from being the subject of a shoot-to-kill manhunt to being on the force again? Perhaps we're going to see the end of Detective Nick and he'll be, I dunno, P.I. Nick?

I'm betting with things wrapping up they won't have him going back to the force, unless he comes back as Captain or something, i.e. Renard is finished.

If he can change into Renard with the hat, all he needs to do is film a 'confession' that he (Renard) killed his election assistant and have it leaked. Combine that with the fingerprint evidence and he'd be toast.

But then we wouldn't get the big showdown.

I hope this season ends well. It's been a fun ride, they deserve a well written ending.
