Supergirl: City of Lost Children
May 9, 2017 4:32 AM - Season 2, Episode 20 - Subscribe

When an alien attacks National City, Supergirl and the DEO learn the alien is a Phorian...

..., an otherwise peaceful race with telekinetic powers. Guardian gets a lead on the Phorian's address, but instead of finding the culprit, he finds a very scared by named Marcus. Marcus will only trust James, so it is up to Guardian to stop the attacks on the city. Meanwhile, Rhea's plan escalates.

*Den of Geek review - James Olsen and Lena Luthor took center stage tonight, as we finally learned what Rhea has been up to.

It really looks like they're going with the "Lena becomes a villain" thing. But maybe they're going to zig instead of zag. What should happen is that Lena gives up on pleasing her Mom (or substitutes) and just goes all-in on trusting in the faith in her by her good friend Kara.

Yeah, I don't know if that redeemed the Guardian stuff, but it did manage to add some depth to it.

The best acting in the world cannot save a story that has no internal logic. That was perhaps the worst episode of the series and that's saying a lot. The actors are so far superior to the writers that it's now just embarrassing for all involved. Poor Mehcad.

I'm basically reserving judgment on this one until next week - how I feel about tonight will depend heavily on how they resolve the 'New Daxam' plotline.

I did appreciate the show actually recognizing one of my main problems with the Guardian storyline - that all he'd been doing up to date is punching bad guys, not really heroing - but they've uniformly flubbed stuff with Jimmy, so I don't wanna get my hopes up just yet.

Oh: bonus points for Lena and Kara being adorable together at the start, although I am again convinced Kara would solve a lot of her problems by just telling Lena everything - bringing Lena onto Team Supergirl would have literally prevented an alien invasion this week.

Oh, further thought about Lena - this is the same problem Smallville had before I stopped watching it, (I caught the first two seasons). We have a sympathetic Luthor. They're too powerful and dangerous to leave as a free agent, but they're young and open-minded enough that it makes sense to risk letting them in on the big secret, and not telling them ultimately risks them going villain because they're without a support structure to help them stay hopeful (and therefore good).

So at the moment, I'm still hoping Supergirl will be a (much) smarter show than Smallville, all CW-sms aside.

all CW-sms aside I know what you mean but this made me think of an all-CW text chain and I want that in my life. HR pitching stupid ideas, Kara and Cisco nerding out, Barry and Oliver announcing they are quitting social media a couple times a week, Barry going back into the past because he accidentally replied to the whole thread instead of sexting Iris directly...

Whatever they do to resolve the whole Savitar mess, they should've spent that money on your idea instead.

(It could still be called Flashpoint!)

I didn't catch it myself but an A.V. Club commenter pointed out that Winn whistled the "Super Friends" song in this episode.
