Chuck: vs. The Sizzling Shrimp
September 29, 2014 7:49 PM - Season 1, Episode 5 - Subscribe

Chuck spots a Chinese spy in a restaurant. The agents want to find out why she's here in the US. Chuck goes on his first stake out, which is also a special occasion for his family.

Chuck goes up against the Chinese Triad and in doing so, wheels out basically every Chinese cultural cliche it can think of. That said, it was good to see James Hong again, an actor who seems to be Hollywood's "go-to old Chinese guy" whenever they have the need to cast a role, given the amount of times I've seen him in things.

So while I found the spy plot in this episode a bit lacklustre, I really enjoyed the B and C plot about "Mothers Day" and Morgan's quest to keep his job at the Buy More. I've found Morgan largely annoying in every episode so far and this story was able to both reveal a little more about his character and his motivations while not rewriting his character entirely. The Mother's Day plot line with Ellie, meanwhile, added some nice back story to Chuck's relationship with his sister, and I'm intrigued by what happened to his mother (and for that matter, his father).

Overall, an average episode, but one that sets up some potentially interesting things for the future.
