The Good
Bailey getting back to being Bailey.
Teddy being an actually good advocate for Megan and Owen.
Teddy being a good advocate for herself.
Jo the Doctor.
Arizona getting her groove back.
DeLuca turning the awkward around.

The Bad
The conversational exposition fairy coming and explaining about Minnick and Stephanie.
Jo the whiner.
The sub-I's being so far past caricature they almost lapped themselves.
"Pure Ellis".
Jo being kind of painted as S2 Meredith, all angsty and twisty.
The "intervention" on Owen.

The Cute
Bailey and Ben watching the remodel.
Bailey and Ben at home.
DeLuca and DeLuca squabble.
Pierce and Avery awkwardness.
Arizona word-vomiting all over Teddy.
Jo continuing the long-standing tradition of inappropriate sex.
Riggs and Megan.

The Meh
The fan-wank of Cristina's article. (My little Greys fan heart loved it, but still.)
Amelia and Owen.
Amelia and Jackson.
Amelia and her MRI.
The sexy Italian and her sexy study.
Riggs and Mer.

While I liked the over-arching theme of STRONG WOMEN RAWR, it was a little anvillicious for me. I missed this Bailey, and am really glad to see her.

I'm ... I don't know about this thing with Amelia. I've been a fan since she showed up on Private Practice, and I'm interested to see where they go with it, especially since they've made her character so unlikable.

Super Surgeon Amelia is entertaining to watch. Damaged Wreck of a Person Amelia is desperately boring. The tumor seems like some kind d if weird Hail Mary to reconcile those two things.

My guess is Amelia gets a Very Dramatic Death Arc and then Teddy and Owen are together next season.

I'm betting Amelia lives, since it would be cruel even fictionally to systematically kill off siblings. Instead I think it's likely she gets a Very Dramatic Illness Arc, in which the tumor is proven to be the reason for her radical personality and mood changes, and she and Owen reconcile, and the spotlight moves on to some other couple for a while.

Oh, God, let's hope so! I don't think Kim Raver is staying long this season.

The Very, Very Good: No Katherine Avery!

This show's trademark is willfully ignoring how absurd the accumulated tragedies become when tallied up in favor of interesting shorter arcs.

Partial list of things that have happened to Meredith Grey: abusive/suicidal mom who got Alzheimer's, broken family, estranged father, fell in love with married man, removed live bomb from a patient's body, best friend hit by bus, other best friend had breakdown and ghosted everyone she knew, stepmother died under her care and her father blamed her for it, husband got shot by mass shooter, miscarriage, was in a plane crash which killed her sister (and took one friend's leg, and eventually killed another), got a C-section during a power outage, other other best friend moved to Zurich, tended to people from ambulance crash, tended to people from train crash, responded to bus explosion, survived earthquake, marriage nearly fell apart when husband ignored her to work for the President of the United States, almost died in a ferry accident, dad died, dog died, husband died (and the negligent doctor who might have saved him became her co-worker), assaulted by patient...

So respectfully... the argument that the writers would say "That would just be too much to do to one character!" and decide to cut the sister-in-law a break for Meredith's sake... I do not find this argument compelling in this case.
