Mystery Science Theater 3000: PARTS: THE CLONUS HORROR   Rewatch
July 18, 2019 1:03 AM - Season 8, Episode 11 - Subscribe

Rewatch! Considering the political reality of the USA right now, this movie's almost charming with how the villain is an evil Senator's brother, who runs a farm for stupid 70s people, clones of "important" folk, you know, like senators, to serve as living sources of spare body parts. Especially hilarious is the pseudo-Orwellian culture of the farm, which is like a sinister community college. Previously

This is one of those movies with a reasonably good premise, but the execution is just dullsville. Good to see MST's old friend Peter Graves again, though.

Tonight, once again, it's MST Club, our low-stress viewing of MST3K and more, open to both diehards and dilettantes, starting at 7 PM US Eastern time (which is 4 PM US Pacific) at https://cytu.be/r/Metafilter_MST3KClub. The episode starts typically two hours in, at 9PM ET/6PM PT. We've got cool things lined up tonight, so I hope you can make it!

I did finally manage to watch The Island, which had gotten sued by the makers for Parts: The Clonus Horror. And yeah, it is basically the same premise, though don't know that it's close enough to justify a copyright infringement case.

The execution of The Island is better than P:TCH, but not really by a whole lot. And, as a Michael Bay film, there were a rather lot more conspicuous branding than you would expect in a compound where the residents don't actually have any choice of what brands they consume.
