My Brother, My Brother And Me: MBMBaM 383: Fins Up
December 4, 2017 9:38 AM - Subscribe

For reasons beyond our understanding, we were able to have Jimmy Buffett on this episode of My Brother, My Brother and Me. Jimmy Buffett looked at all the opportunities available to him, the real Jimmy Buffett, and decided that a good expenditure of his time was to be a guest on our podcast. We are eternally grateful. Suggested talking points: Thorwatch 2017, Bathrobe Perimeter, Double Vampire, Popcorn Dupe, NCIS Party, GUESTSPERT JIMMY BUFFETT

I have to admit I was surprised when Jimmy's answer to "how should I prepare myself to learn sailing" was to read Aubrey-Maturin novels.

The Buffet Guestpert segment was a chill hang but honestly the whole ep was pretty on fire. Hulk Smash the Daddy's Home dads, Quadruple Vampire accents, Mark Harmon saving six kids from a burning bus, JAG-off.

I too had the exact same thought as Justin which was "Huh, that is not what I was expecting". My favorite moments on the show are when one of the brothers (it's usually Justin) vocalizes the exact same thought I just had.

I thought this episode had a lot of good parts too but I don't think I laughed even once, which was weird. It was more like "nodding in earnest agreement" a lot. Like, yes, Hulk smashing those awful men in those awful movies WOULD be a welcome sight. Yes, please, and thank you. Yes, I think I would enjoy the combination of a heartbreaking play catharsis followed by a chill hang type of play.

I thought it was extremely sweet that Griffin put in the question about the NCIS birthday party just to read the very earnest & thoughtful answer as a little bright spot in (another) stressful news weekend.

I also really liked Jimmy's articulation of the difference between freaking out over a situation and being attentive to a situation. I like to think I am in that realm too. It made me think that I really like Jimmy as a person even if I don't think I enjoy his music (although who I am I to say, I hardly know anything about it) or his fandom.

I also liked how Justin made the joke he made on twitter when he went to Jimmy's concert over the summer that he'd be the middle aged man in a Hawaiian shirt and Jimmy didn't seem to get it at first. I am observing as I get older a generational humor gap in which when younger people talk to older people there is sometimes a mismatch in how jokes are made & received and I like it when I observe things that I have already observed in the past. But Jimmy did try to get on board with that and turn it around pretty quickly, which I also appreciated.

Also I am not a big fan of their (new? feels new?) thing of doing their plugs in between the opening segment & the advice.

For some reason, I never expected Jimmy Buffet to have a southern accent. I had always assumed he sounded like a new englander. Don't know why.

Anyways, I was dreading the J.B. interview, but actually ended up enjoying it.

I think my favorite part was when everyone checked their heart rates on their watches.

I am so relieved they did their Thor Watch! I was afraid it want going to happen.

Whosoever holds these billboards, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Frances McDormand.

Jimmy Buffett is from Mississippi, and his early career had him all over the south.

In fact, when he was younger, he was drunk and went out to a parking lot to find his car. Not seeing it, he climbed on the roof of another car. Unfortunately for him, that car belonged to Buford Pusser, the sheriff from Walking Tall.

That's about the most Southern story I have ever heard.

Quadruple Vampire killed me dead.

Quadruple Vampire taught me something about Droppy. Something dark, that I never wanted to know.

I kept thinking there was no way Griffin could escalate that accent one more time, but then he did. I'd like to listen to the "Quadruple Vampire meets Travis's Donald Duck" podcast, please.

I am ready for Hulk's appearance (and subsequent consumption of everyone and everything) in all movies.

The NCIS birthday party answer was delightful. Sloppy joes at a birthday party? Yes, that is a solid idea.

I can forgive the plugs between the opening and the advice since they were for charity, but I will lose patience with them if they continue past the Candlenights season.

I wish I could draw. I have ideas for the Quadruple Vampire that I could never effectively capture on paper or screen.

I thought the Jimmy Buffett segment was really, really nice.

And I found out this morning (through the MBMBaM appreciation group on FB) that one of the friends I've known since elementary school also listens to the podcast. I don't know why I found this so amazing - a lot of people listen to the show! - but it always seemed like my own weird thing, since everyone I've talked to about it always gives me strange looks. Finally, someone will appreciate my Shrimp Heaven Now! shirt. The world is full of things.

Oh, wasn't it Justin's Donald Duck, though?

Yikes. Re: Donald, it really could be any of them. Justin's just the one I remember because of the duck guts.

(I am done making comments now!)

Yeah, all of their Donalds are problematic in different ways. For some reason I feel like Travis's fits best with Quad Vamp.
