So funny to see Kirk here introduced as "Mick" and Lorelai having no idea who he is.

Yeah - in re watch it's amazing how "Rapey" Tristan comes off. Not sure if I am just more aware of it in my older years, but that kid screams sexual assault waiting to happen. I always thought he was a jerk on the first time around - but didn't get the strong vibe I do now.

I'm glad people admitted to not liking the characters in the S1E1 thread, because now I don't feel bad saying it. Lorelai, if you're so embarrassed about your clothes, close the damn robe! Grrrrr. And yet despite this, I enjoyed the episode and look forward to more.

Ok, I'd notice that folks like this show and while it's not my genre it was a slow night on netflix but there's a couple questions if it's not too spoilery. Is the principal an ogre or a troll? Is the father a master warlock or just a beard for the grandmother who is clearly a powerful witch. How soon does the mom start teaching Rory spells or is it comic magic from the Struthers character? And is the hellhole under the hardware store/burger joint?

Good god, but Chad Michael Murray is creepy in this episode. Such a change of pace from uber-sensitive aspiring novelist Lucas Scott!

I had a similarly young mom, and though I didn't go to private school and I can't even imagine my mother patronizing a dry cleaning business, there were definitely times when she wore hilariously revealing clothes to similarly guardian-requisite events and embarrassed the hell out of me as she preened in semi-ignorant bliss. I feel you, Rory!

Why is Paris so mean? I wasn't smart enough to interact with that echelon of the student body when I was in high school... are they really that competitive?

The dude who asks Lorelai out looks old enough to be her dad. Do not want.

Paris has a tough life. Keep watching.

Agreed! Paris has an arc, give it time.

In fact all the characters pretty much have an arc, except Jess. Jess is an idiot.

Shhh. Let us delay the Jess seasons.

Wow, I'd forgotten how brutal this episode is to Lorelei. I'm intrigued how many things have to go wrong before she goes the rodeo route, though. Her alarm clock fails, everything is at the dry cleaner's, and Rory (who's fairly obsessive) doesn't think to check on her before the actual minute of departure. Also, her mom has to show up to make sure that she's embarrassed instead of rude, and Rory has to insist that she go inside instead of dropping her off (which I still kind of wonder at -- I'm pretty sure by high school I made my own way to a new school without parents meeting the principal until they needed to terrify him into switching my classes or something).

This is kind of Rory's trait. That makes me think of her first night in college - still needing her mom, then, too!

So, we re-watched this episode last night and WOW. That outfit Lorelai wore! Oh, man, how embarrassing!

Um, yes! Somehow his behavior makes me really super uncomfortable. I'm on-board that we're supposed to think he's a tool (and this is my first watch, so I don't know if they'll flip it around and try to get us to like him later) but to me he comes off not so much douchey as dangerous. Blech.

Even though I've always been a person who was all, "Hey, I can't help what my parents do, I'm not gonna be embarrassed by them," if I were Rory I would have sent Lorelai back to change her terrible western hootchie outfit before dragging her INTO the snooty private school. What the hell was she thinking to insist she come in there?! Seriously, showing up in pajamas would have been an improvement. Or sweatpants. There had to be something in the house with more coverage.

I'm Lorelai and this is Lorelai and ramble ramble Demerol....

"So, you like the lobster puffs, huh?"

"Every morning for you is a coffee morning." Two episodes in and I'm all, nooooo shit.

"And I had the fuzzy clock and it didn't purr on time."

Wow, that IS a really good harp player.

Sally Struthers lives next door?

For a business suit, that is a very short skirt she's got on.
