The Adventure Zone: Graduation Ep. 5 “What’s Yours is Mined”

The dorm-mates are dispatched on their first mission, squaring off against magma monsters, interplanar behemoths and a child's word puzzle. You'll never guess which one of those gives them the hardest time!

Aw yiss! Wild magic! I got a good laugh from the image of Griffin running into combat and then immediately teleporting away.

Clint's joy at getting the puzzle was also pretty amazing.

Yayyy! I forgot this was coming out today! New TAZ always makes my day.

I love that they spent so much time working out a way to resolve the Xorn without fighting and it turned out to be as uninterested in fighting as they were.

Ever since they started putting out the Balance arc as graphic novels I can't help but picture the show in that form and the scene with Sir Fitzroy lighting the way with his showers of sparks would be great.

Yeah, the Xorn was a fabulous character. Also, most of the magmen were uninterested in fighting, too, which was also pretty great. I'm totally down for DnD with more subpoenas than swords.

Using Prestidigitation to fuck around with people like a big annoying idiot is one of my all time favourite D&D goofs.

Hearing Clint get so excited about solving the word puzzle was great.

"Vait! Vait! Prepare the legal documents!"

And we start getting the first big hints that something isn't really right at the school.

Clint McElroy, Dimension Walker is becoming semi-canon and that makes me so happy.

I'm not good with "Dr. Mushrooms" though. It was fun as a goof for an episode but kind of annoys me that it might stick for Justin's character; if he's gotta have a name, it seems unfair for him to be stuck with a silly one.

It sounds like "Doctor Mushrooms" isn't going to stick, and I'm glad -- it doesn't seem quite right to me, either.

Doctor Mushrooms reminds me of the goofs they made way back at the start of TAZ when they weren't really taking it seriously and had to retcon later when they realised they were taking it very seriously.

They used Dr. Mushrooms again this episode, I think, because it's still the same day for the characters. IIRC, they said they'd been making up new names each day.

I'm cool with making up new names each day, but I'm even more cool with them dropping the "we have to name the firbolg" joke the same way they dropped the "Taako is going to invent tacos" joke.

WTF is Peacock TV?

NBC's streaming service, I think?

I'm happy to hear about this even though the chance that I'm going to subscribe to peacock is miniscule! Good for them.

(make Griffin voice all the npcs)

Yeah it sucks that they're going to be on an also-ran streaming service that stands no chance of ever getting traction in the Streaming Wars(I would say it's a step up from Seeso), but for even a single pilot animated episode of The Adventure Zone Balance... they're going to be amazing.

Mergers and acquisitions are what happens next; the need for content will go on.
