Another garment name I'd never heard of before after last weeks buffet dress - the paper-bag shorts.

This year's crop of sewers* seem to be incredibly good, and because they are mostly on a similar level, the judges' descisions can go any way. Still, it is only the second week. They almost all nailed the shorts and the sun-dresses were all lovely, even the ones that weren't finished.

Meanwhile, was I imagining it, or was Joe flirting outrageously with Adam at one point?

*Isn't there another word we can use - it's fine spoken aloud, but written down I keep reading it as if it means drains, rather than people doing sewing.

Yes, Joe was definitely flirting with Adam. What I love about this show is how much fun people seem to have during the tasks, even when things are going wrong and they have a bit of a wobble, there are always lots of smiles in the sewing room. Joe is such a great host, so supportive and kind, and the judges are wonderful. I'm the same height and just a wee bit younger than Esme and I really wish I had an iota of her style. I want her to take me clothes shopping!

I'd heard of paper bag shorts before but don't find them a particularly flattering look except on the very skinny.

I absolutely loved Damien's dress, with the beautiful leaf pattern and the hi-lo hemline. It was my favourite out of all the dresses. Adeena's dress was lovely though, very elegant and she is so clever to make her own pattern. I thought Lawratu was very, very lucky not to be sent home this week. Her transformation garment was shockingly bad.

The sewers* seemed a lot more confident this week! (*Another word is sewists and I've tried using it, but somehow it doesn't feel quite right to me. We just have to talk about sewing more so it becomes the immediate association and drainage gets relegated to the sidelines.)

It's interesting that I don't think I've ever seen anyone use a rolled hem foot on the show. I wonder if it's because they can be tricky to get the hang of, or if their use is discouraged, or if most people just never use them? I feel like I'd practice having them down pat for a competition where speed matters and where people always seem to end up with raw-edge hems.

I wonder who sewed the matching masks for all the dresses! And how the sewers all the way at the back of that giant room hear the comments the judges are making.

I was so charmed by Joe handing Adeena a tissue and exclaiming ‘What’s happening with you, you daft bat!’ that I ‘rewound’ and watched it four times.

This is so enjoyable. And I think we are now at four contestants known to have cats.

Took me a while to watch this week! So pleased for Adeena, I hope she believes in herself a bit more now.

We could call them sew-ers?

I loved this episode. Damien keeps surprising me--his dress was lovely, but Adeena really shined. Joe and Adam may need to get a room soon. I fall in love with every group of sewers and this group is no different.
