Aqua gets on with his life now that his quest seems to be at an end. We see him spend two relaxed days, one on a shopping date with Kana and the other having the "where exactly do you see this relationship going" conversation with Akane. Things seem to be going smoothly for him, perhaps even a bit...too smoothly?

The episode starts off in the Strawberry Production studio with Aqua agreeing to go with B-Komachi on their trip to Miyazaki. Kana points out that Aqua is going to need a suitcase for the trip, and offers to take him shopping for one in Shinjuku the following day.

Kana arrives late, and Aqua is a perfect gentleman the whole time. He orders a hot latte that arrives right when Kana does, as the weather is cold outside. He smoothly pays for their coffees, helps to carry her purse as they walk around, and already had a reservation at a nice Brazilian steakhouse in preparation for dinner. We get the distinct impression that thanks to his past life, Aqua is actually well-versed in the rituals of dating.

Aqua then takes out Akane, and it seems his intent is to break things off now that he no longer needs her in his quest for revenge. The two of them start talking about the ambiguous nature of their relationship, with Akane ultimately realizing that she's not actually sure if she has romantic feelings for Aqua due to both her inexperience and the odd circumstances around how their relationship started. She's still very certain that she wants to support him, especially in his quest for revenge, which leads Aqua to an explanation of almost everything that he's been plotting on that front. As Aqua reveals what he learned from Himekawa, a look of startled realization appears on Akane's face, but she makes an excuse to head home before revealing to Aqua what it is she's deduced.

Akane pieces together a flaw in Aqua's logic. While his deduction is not necessarily incorrect, there exists the distinct possibly that Himekawa and Aqua are half-brothers through infidelity on Himekawa's mother's part. That affair partner could also have impregnated Ai, which means that Aqua's biological father could still be alive and the quest for revenge could be back on the menu.

Instead of leaving things in an ambiguous state, we cut to Ai's grave where Ruby is cleaning and asking her late mother for guidance. As she leaves the cemetery, she passes buy a man in a trenchcoat and sunglasses holding a bouquet of flowers, with hair the exact same color and texture as Ruby and Aqua. He recognizes Ruby, and lays the flowers at Ai's grave. He remarks that Ruby has grown up to be a beautiful young woman, which is not a surprise given that she is his daughter.

I'm honestly a bit sad that the revenge thing is back on. It would have been refreshing had the show just done a complete pivot and started focusing on Aqua's burgeoning career as an actor for the rest of the story since that's really been where the bulk of the interesting stuff in this story has been anyway. However, I am glad that they pulled this rug early instead of dragging it out for half a season if the revenge plot was still going to be ongoing.

I realize that astute viewers should have known that the "dead father" reveal wouldn't have worked timeline-wise. It makes sense for Aqua to accept this as a logical explanation but as omniscient viewers we have one piece of knowledge that he doesn't, which is that Ai had a phone call with the father before she was murdered. With Himekawa's timeline, the murder-suicide of his parents would have occurred when Aqua was 1-2 years old, which would be a couple of years before Ai's murder.

While Akane seems to imply that Aqua accepts these facts at face value because he wants to set down his vengeful burden, his logic checks out here. It leaves the question of how the stalker found Ai's address open, but at that point Aqua could just accept that perhaps the murderer was a bit more resourceful than he was giving them credit for. It also creates some additional uncertainty in Akane. Her loophole is very valid, but without more information she's also just making a guess so it would make sense why she wouldn't want to share her reasoning right then and there. That on top of the possibility of not wanting Aqua to get wrapped up in the darkness of vengeance again after having seemingly found closure with that part of his life.
